UPDATE 4:30pm

I35 has reopened. Officers have left the area and TXDOT should be off scene.

Y’all, we’re clocking out at 5pm. Don’t make us get back on here and shut things down again. You need to be on your best behavior.

————————————————————-

UPDATE 1:58pm

The left lane is now open. There is movement on I35, but it's still very slow.
..it's like that salad I ate Sunday, it's a start, but I've got a long way go before having a beach bod.
..are dad bod's still in? Asking for a friend.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

We can’t make this stuff up. We’re shutting down all of southbound I35 at Renfro so TXDOT can clean up an accident that occurred this morning.

At this point, we advise just staying at home, getting back in bed and streaming Netflix. The world’s gone cray today.

Happy National Dog Day to K9 Sonic, who would like everyone to know that it’s WAY too hot outside, so please don’t bring drugs into Burleson.

Seriously, you try sniffing for drugs while wearing a fur coat in this Texas heat and see how you feel about it.

Today, we’re celebrating Sonic and all the hardworking K9s out there serving alongside their handlers. They may have four legs, but they’re every bit a part of the team.

Give your dog an extra treat today. Sonic says that part is mandatory.

Our friends at the Texas Department of Emergency Management and the United Way of Palo Pinto County reached out to us and asked if we would help share information regarding relief efforts for those impacted by the Ross Fire.

In support of our fellow first responders and the communities affected by these fires, we want to help get their message out.

PLEASE NOTE: The United Way is ONLY requesting financial donations at this time.

They are NOT accepting donations of food, clothing or other physical items. If you would like to help, please consider making a financial contribution using the information provided in the graphic.

Additionally, please do not travel to the affected areas to offer assistance or drop off donations. Unnecessary traffic can interfere with firefighters, law enforcement and emergency personnel actively working in the area. Please allow first responders the space they need to safely do their jobs.

The best way we can support our neighbors right now is to follow the direction of officials on the ground and give through the established relief efforts.

Please keep the residents, first responders and everyone affected by the Ross Fire in your thoughts and prayers.

North Texas has officially entered AIR FRYER MODE.

It is HOT outside. Not “grab an ice cold sweet tea and sit on the porch” hot. More like “why does the wind feel like a flamethrower?” hot.

Temperatures are expected to climb near 108° today, with the heat index potentially reaching around 111°.

So, a few friendly reminders from BPD:

• Drink plenty of water, even if you don’t feel thirsty yet.
• Limit strenuous outdoor activity, especially during the hottest part of the afternoon.
• Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing if you have to be outside.
• Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning.
• Check on elderly family members, neighbors and anyone without reliable A/C.
• NEVER leave a child or pet inside a vehicle, even for a few minutes.
• Know the signs of heat illness. Confusion, fainting or other signs of heat stroke are a medical emergency. Call 911.

And finally...

Today is NOT the day to prove how Texan you are by mowing the yard at 3 p.m.

The grass will still be there tomorrow..... or it may just melt. One of the two.

Stay cool, Burleson.
