Happy Easter Burley!

03/24/2026

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Doug Manning, a truly dedicated public servant and friend to so many in our community.

Doug gave his heart to the City of Burley, serving as Mayor and later as a member of the City Council. He also spent fifteen years as the City’s Economic Development Coordinator and served many years on the Burley Development Authority (BDA) Board.

Doug wasn’t just a leader—he was someone who genuinely cared about people and this community. He brought creativity, energy, and a sense of humor to his work, and he always looked for ways to make Burley an even better place to live.

He will be greatly missed, and his impact will continue to be felt throughout our city.

With heartfelt condolences to the Manning family, friends, and all who knew and loved him — from your friends at City Hall.

🔥Structure Fire🔥
At 11:58 A.M. on January 15th, The Burley Fire Department was dispatched to a single wide mobile home on fire west of Burley. Burley Fire responded with two engines and one tender staffed with a combination of full time and volunteer firefighters, along with Fire Chief Tolman as incident command. Initial crews arrived to find a single wide mobile home with moderate smoke in the main living space of the home. Cassia County Sheriff's Office deputies were on scene assisting with the occupants of the home, who were able to make it out safely. Fire crews were able to make an aggressive initial attack and stop fire progression quickly. One occupant was evaluated by Intermountain Cassia Regional Hospital Paramedics on scene. No other injuries were reported. 3 people were displaced by the fire and have received assistance from the Burley Firefighters Local 3308 burnout fund as well as Red Cross. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but appears to have begun on the stove top and spread to the surrounding structure.

Since 2026 is well under way, we figured we would fill you all in on what calls BFD had in 2025.

Fires: 83 fires with 17 of those being confirmed structure fires

Medical: 897- Calls for emergency medical. BFD responds with Intermountain Cassia Regional Hospital Paramedics for every medical call within the City of Burley, with the exception of care facilities.

False Alarms: 126 - Calls that range from burned toast that set off the smoke detector to full fire detection system malfunctions.

Cancelled In Route: 119 - Ever see us coming with our lights and sirens going just to shut them off and turn around? Chances are we received information from dispatch that there was no actual emergency and didn't need to continue.

Missed: 9 - Times that the on duty crew were currently on a call providing service when BFD received a secondary call during that time. We do our very best but sometimes there just aren't enough firefighters to go around on those extra busy days.

Other: 79 - These are calls that range from debris in the roadway that needs cleaned up, to cats in trees, or any other issue the public may need us to solve.

Other Duties: - Beside the 1300 calls, BFD is always working to keep the public safe. Crews are continually conducting business and care facility inspections, flowing all of the fire hydrants annually to ensure they're in good working order when needed, we give fire safety tours, and teach stop the bleed classes to the community and schools. BFD meets every Monday night for full department trainings, in addition to the 2-4 hours of training every day in between calls.

We work hard day and night to provide the best we possibly can for the best community around. We are looking forward to a safe and prosperous 2026!

At the Burley Fire Department, we extend our warmest wishes for a joyful holiday season to all in our community. Yet, amid the festivities, we recognize that this time can also bring profound challenges—feelings of stress, isolation, or deep sorrow that weigh heavily on the heart.

It’s a sobering reality that studies from around the world, including recent global analyses, have shown elevated su***de risks on New Year’s Day, often marking one of the year’s peaks. Tragically, organizations like the World Health Organization estimate that thousands lose their lives to su***de on days like this, underscoring the urgency of support during these transitions.

If you’re navigating mental health struggles, emotional pain, substance challenges, or just need a compassionate ear, remember: help is always within reach. Call 988 for the Su***de and Crisis Lifeline—it’s free, confidential, and available 24/7 with caring, trained counselors ready to listen without judgment.

Please know, if you’re facing depression or thoughts of self-harm, you are never truly alone. Your life holds immense value, and there are people who care deeply about you.

We also encourage you to check in on those around you—family, friends, neighbors. Subtle signs of distress can be easy to miss, but a simple act of kindness or concern can truly save a life. Together, let’s foster a community of empathy and watchfulness this season.

🔥Structure Fire🔥
Just before 1 am Friday, Oct. 24th Burley Fire was dispatched to a structure fire in a mobile home park, with one occupant unaccounted for, just outside of city limits. Burley Fire had an initial response of one engine manned with two full time staff and Chief Tolman as incident command. Engine 1 arrived on scene to find one mobile home fully involved and spreading to the neighboring homes. The fire burned incredibly hot and fast, consuming one neighboring home in a very short time. The initial crew worked to keep the fire contained and limit its spread any further. Soon after, a second engine from Burley Fire arrived along with a water tender and followed up with assistance from West End Fire And Rescue, Heyburn Fire & Rescue, Declo Fire and Rescue Department, East End Fire Station, Cassia County Sheriff's Office, and Intermountain Cassia Regional Hospital Paramedics. The fire was held to three units total, two of which were complete losses and causing significant damage to a third. Multiple vehicles were also lost in the blaze.
A total of 16 residence were displaced with one confirmed fatality. Families are receiving assistance from the Burley Firefighters Local 3308 burnout fund along with Red Cross in their time of need.
The Burley Fire Department extends its gratitude towards all of the surrounding agencies with their willingness and ability to respond and assist.
