Cassia County Sheriff's Office Cassia County Sheriff's Office It is critical that all members understand and support the organizations missions.

MISSION STATEMENT

Our mission is to provide and maintain, as much as is practicable, and given all available, resources, a feeling of security and safety among all persons within our legal jurisdiction. Our mission is our legitimate basis for existence and the basis of our professional ethics, goals, objectives, rules, regulations, operating policies, procedures, and practices. Mission is fu

nctionally defined by the power established by legislated authority and the demands for service from our public. It is the direct and ultimate responsibility of the Sheriff to interpret public demands and, within budgeted resources, provide for the best possible delivery of our services. The nature of public safety and security forces services are varied. Examples include but are not limited to: equal, equitable, and fair enforcement of laws; responding to calls for non-enforcement services; active patrol; security and protection of prisoners; personnel, on-duty as well as off duty. These services, and the perception we create while engaging in these services, are functionally defined, made real and ultimately judged by the nature of activities we engage in as well as how we appear while engaged in such activities. In summary, our mission is to deliver a service as well as a perception of service, i.e.; a feeling of safety and security. Our mission is a contract with our citizens as well as an affirmation of their trust. A contract that each employee is charged with the responsibility to protect and promote. Failure to do so will lead to the loss of citizen empathy for our needs, result is public alienation, and eventually bring out the loss of the publics confidence and our authority to exist.

Fire Update! Thank you so much to the crews working tirelessly to contain the fire. We are so grateful for all you do!

After an unmanned aerial system mapped the fire yesterday, the is now 1,397 acres and 46% contained.

Containment indicates how much of the fire perimeter has been surrounded by a control line. As conditions on a fire change, so can the size of its perimeter. The new mapping shows the fire perimeter has grown, so the containment, expressed as percentage of the perimeter, has gone down.

While the containment percentage has dropped slightly, we are still estimating that the fire will still be fully contained by June 7.

The Cassia County Sheriff’s Office partners with the Idaho Child Passenger Safety project to encourage and provide safety to juvenile passengers. This entails that we have multiple Car Seat Technicians at our office that are trained to assist the public in car seat installs and inspections. We are so proud to be a part of this initiative.

Here’s an update as of last night on the Summit Creek Fire.

The on the grew to about 1500 acres today, but fire behavior has slowed this evening thanks, in part, to calmer winds and lower temperatures.

‼️UPDATE‼️

After an assessment this morning the U.S Forest Service has confirmed that the Summit Creek Fire has now grown to approximately 1,200 acres. It is believed to have started by lightning and winds are making it grow as rapid as it is. Crews are working tirelessly to get it put out and we thank them. We will continue to update when we can.

Yesterday afternoon our dispatch began getting a mass amount of calls about the fire in the Oakley Basin/Cache Peak area (Summit Creek Fire). This is land the Forest Service has jurisdiction over and they were immediately notified. They have had resources out there since yesterday afternoon and as of this morning they are still working on getting more assistance. The fire is not contained at this time, it is growing, but USFS is actively working on it and getting more assistance.

As of last night they believe the fire had burned approximately 550 acres, this may no longer be accurate but is the last known assessment on size. Last night the Independence Lakes Trailhead was also evacuated, please continue to stay clear of that area until further notice.

We want to thank the USFS crews for their hard work in protecting our county. More information will be provided when it comes to us. Thank you.

May is Stop The Bleed month! This movement has strengthened emergency preparedness all over the world. When it comes to emergencies with serious bleeding involved it’s the minutes and seconds that matter. Everyone can learn what to do in a bleeding emergency and save someone’s life.
