On Friday, June 5, 2026, the California Emergency Medical Services Authority (EMSA) will conduct a statewide full-scale mass casualty incident exercise. As part of this important preparedness effort, Mills-Peninsula Hospital in Burlingame will participate alongside local EMS providers, healthcare partners, and state agencies.

Residents may notice increased emergency response activity in the area, including a Black Hawk helicopter landing on the hospital's helipad as part of the exercise. This is a planned training event and there is no threat to public safety. These exercises help ensure that hospitals, emergency medical personnel, and public safety agencies are prepared to respond effectively during large-scale emergencies and disasters.

We appreciate the community's understanding and support as our regional partners work together to strengthen emergency preparedness and readiness.

May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, and the Burlingame Police Department is reminding everyone to share the road safely.

Motorcyclists are more vulnerable on the roadway, and even a moment of distraction can have serious consequences. Drivers are encouraged to:
• Double check blind spots before changing lanes
• Use turn signals early
• Leave plenty of following distance
• Stay alert and avoid distracted driving

Motorcyclists can help stay safe by:
• Wearing DOT-compliant helmets and protective gear
• Using headlights both day and night
• Riding at safe speeds and staying visible to other drivers

Whether you drive a car, ride a motorcycle, bike, or walk, we all play a role in keeping our roads safe. Let’s work together to make every trip a safe one this month and throughout the year.

This year’s Click It or Ticket campaign runs from May 18 to 31. During this time, the Burlingame Police Department will have additional officers on patrol actively looking for drivers and passengers who are not wearing seat belts. This includes vehicles in which children are not secured in child safety seats or the appropriate safety seats for their age.

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Last week, in the 1800 block of Gilbreth Rd, officers contacted two occupants in a vehicle and discovered that one had an active out-of-state felony warrant. A consensual search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a loaded, unserialized firearm “ghost gun”, a large-capacity magazine, and a controlled substance. Both individuals were arrested on multiple weapons and drug-related charges.

This incident highlights the proactive work of our officers and their commitment to keeping dangerous weapons and illegal drugs out of our community. Their vigilance and thorough investigation helped remove potential threats from our streets, reinforcing our ongoing mission to keep the Burlingame community safe.
