A group of registered Family Child Care providers spent the last 3 Thursday evenings learning about Big Body Play (last three pictures)--what it is, how it's different from teacher-directed gross motor play, risky play, the difference between accommodations and modifications. Last night they put it all into practice, using items in their program to help promote big body play. The provider in the first picture role played a child with a special need and not ready to join in, but needed a comfort item. She then moved on to parallel play and interacted a bit with the rest of the group.
