ANNUAL COAT AND GEAR SWAP DONATIONS: As the temperatures begin to drop and we sort through our kids' winter gear to see what fits and what needs to be replaced, please remember to set aside and donate any items you might be able to give to this year's coat and gear swap. Between now and November 11, the PTO is collecting the following new or gently used (still in good condition) items: coats, snow pants, boots, and accessories (no hats, please).

And just like that, our time at Edmunds Elementary is over. My three children attended this school for a total of nine years. I have volunteered all nine of those years and five of them in the capacity of PTO leader. My children and I have made lots of memories and friends along the way. We have worked hard and have seen ourselves grow. We have indeed found it to be a school, a home and a family; it’s a place to grow with dignity--just like the song says. I hope that if you are reading this and have a child at EES still, you will seriously consider stepping up to volunteer for the PTO next year. It is a great way to help your community and be a part of your child’s school experience. Next year’s PTO team is fantastic—Kim Brockway will be on her third year as a PTO leader; Irene Cervantes will be returning once again; and Gretchen Shuman Platt will be joining the team with lots of great ideas and fresh energy. Thanks again to the EES community for the opportunity to serve. It has been my honor and privilege. All the best, Stacey Hamlin Kelleher

EES PTO and a few other generous donations from families made this special luncheon celebration possible yesterday. Pizzeria Verita brought their wood fire oven and gave teachers and staff a much deserved unique and delicious lunch.

A big thanks also to incoming PTO leader, Gretchen Gretchen Shuman Platt for coming up with and executing this great event!

It’s Teacher Appreciation Week! The PTO is doing our part...but this year, maybe each EES family should take a minute to reach out to just say thanks for all of the hard work and commitment of our teachers and staff. This year has been especially challenging.

Don’t forget the EES gift card drive! The deadline to send yours in is December 18. The PTO is going to double your giving power! Any cards given from now until the 18th will be matched by the PTO. Let’s show what school spirit really means: caring for each other. The pandemic has created greater-than-ever need in our community. Your gift will make a difference, I promise. Let’s make this year’s gift card drive something truly special.

Donations of cards in denominations of $25 are best for distribution and cards for stores that sell both food and toys will be especially helpful. Please send your donations in by the 18th in an envelope marked for Melissa Hathaway.

Tomorrow is Giving Tuesday. I know...I feel that same gnawing sense of...”ugh...another thing to add to the ever-growing list.” This time of year, even the most fortunate of us feel stretched financially, emotionally, physically, even. But there are those in our community for whom this time of year only magnifies stress, and for whom there is little magic or joy. This year, the pandemic adds yet another layer of fear, isolation and despair.

We are asking again for you to consider donating gift cards to Edmunds Elementary. There is a greater need than ever. And maybe rather than obligation, we could consider this giving as an act of self-care. Imagine the family who is struggling, receiving a gift from another family in their community. There is power in that. And love. When we help each other, it is as if a bell has been rung and the vibration and frequency is heard by all of us, a reminder of our connectedness.

Gift cards can be sent in with your kiddo in an envelope marked for Melissa Hathaway. I hope you will give generously. And joyfully.

EES COMMUNITY HOLIDAY GIFT CARDS:
During this holiday season, if you are looking for an opportunity to give to a family in the EES community, consider purchasing a gift card (book store, department store, grocery store, etc.) to donate anonymously. This year Ms. Hathaway (EES School Counselor),Tyler Sessions (P.E. Teacher), and Celia DeVoe (School Based Clinician) are working to connect EES families in need of some extra financial support gift cards for the holidays. The PTO is reaching out to the EES community to help provide gift cards to our EES families in need. Please send any gift card donations to school in an envelope addressed to Melissa Hathaway. In order to reach families before the December break, please send in gift cards no later than Friday the 18th of December. Thank you EES community for your generosity during this holiday season.

SAVE THE DATE: November 10th! The Edmunds Elementary Drama Program is excited to announce our annual Benefit Bake in conjunction with American Flatbread – a true Win-Win-Win fundraiser! For over 20 years, EES Drama has partnered with Very Merry Theatre to produce a theatrical performance that involves over 50 of our young actors, singers and stagehands. Fundraising is the primary means of covering our production, scholarships, costumes, scripts and so much more. Although the status of the 2021 play is up in the air, and would certainly look different than in past years, we are planning as if the show will go on!

For each flatbread pizza that is ordered for take-out on NOVEMBER 10th, EES Drama will receive a portion of the proceeds. This previously successful fundraiser is a wonderful way to support EES Drama, help a local restaurant that means so much to our community and answer the age-old question, “What’s for dinner?” We hope you will be able to join us in supporting our student actors!
