Burlington, CT Starry Sky Project

Burlington, CT Starry Sky Project The Burlington Starry Sky Project is a volunteer effort by community members dedicated to seeing a starry sky over Burlington, CT.

Through small, neighborly, and individual actions we can all reclaim the beautiful dark skies we were meant to see. Follow the moon phase calendar so you know when the next starry night is coming; the stars are always brightest when there is no visible moon (New Moon phase). https://www.almanac.com/astronomy/moon/calendar/zipcode/06013/2022-05

Join Lights Out Connecticut to save energy and protect migrating birds during peak migration season this spring! Most birds migrate at night to avoid predators and to take advantage of cooler temperatures. Artificial nighttime lighting can disorient migrating birds since they use the moon, stars, and the earth’s magnetism for guidance. You can help by turning off non-essential and decorative lights between midnight and 6 a.m. through May 31. Click here to take the pledge: https://fal.cn/3xaW7

The next new moon is on Monday, May 30th. Let's all do our part to make the sky above us incredibly full of stars. It's easy: Turn off all of your outdoor lights after 10:00 PM (or replace them with lights that are shielded so their rays only focus downward).
