Brianna T. Gainley and Ryan C. Hart Teamwork Scholarship Fund

On March 18, 2016, BHS Alum, Brianna Gainley, became the first graduate of UMass Lowell's Class of 2016. Five weeks later, on April 23, 2016, Brianna passed away after a valiant five year battle against osteosarcoma.

Following her untimely death, the "Brianna T. Gainley and Ryan C. Hart Teamwork Scholarship Fund" was established by the Gainley family and UMass Lowell in memory of Brianna. UMass Lowell will use proceeds from the fund to provide an annual scholarship to sophomore, junior, and senior students pursuing a degree in computer science at the University.

Brianna's family and friends have formed "Team Brianna" to run the Bay State half marathon in Lowell on October 16, 2016. Members of "Team Brianna" will be running in memory and honor of Brianna — UML's first Class of ’16 graduate — and the teamwork between Brianna and her partner, Ryan. The purposes of "Team Brianna" are to:

- Continue remembering Brianna and how she enriched people's lives, and to never forget the strength, perseverance, determination and courage that she displayed under adverse circumstances

- Support the women in technology initiative

- Support UMass Lowell's mission, and to help provide financial assistance to future generations of UML students who share Brianna's dedication to pursuing their education and completing their CS degree

If you would like to learn more about the people and reasons behind the "Brianna T. Gainley and Ryan C. Hart Teamwork Scholarship Fund", Ed Brennan from UMass Lowell wrote a very nice article about Brianna which can be found at this link:

https://www.uml.edu/News/stories/2016/Brianna-Gainley-Graduation.aspx

If you would like to remember Brianna by making a tax deductible donation of any amount to the UML scholarship fund that was established in Brianna's name, please consider visiting the online "Support UMass Lowell" page at the link below and selecting the "New Gift" button:

If you choose to donate, you will immediately receive an email with a summary of the transaction followed by an official gift receipt from UML in the mail.

The BHS Marching Band would like to invite family, friends of the program, and members of the community to their 2nd Annual Preview Show. The students, staff, and volunteers of the band have been hard at work over the last two weeks of band camp to prepare their 2016 Fall Show "The Lunar Project," which tells the story of the Space Race between the US and Soviet Union and features the music of 'The Planets' Suite, Apollo 13, and Also Sprach Zarathustra.

The BHS Band will be performing for the community tomorrow night (Thursday, August 25th) on Varsity Field from 7-8 PM. Admission is free and they hope to have a great turnout! (Maybe if we're lucky, we might even have a special appearance from the moon...)

If you can't be there, the BHS Band will be live-streaming their performance on Periscope (). If you go to their website (burlingtonband.weebly.com), you can follow the band on Twitter and receive an update from Periscope once they’re are ready to go.
