We would like to acknowledge Officer James P. McGrath of the Burlington Police Department. On May 12, 1904, Officer McGrath died in the line of duty while on foot patrol in the Burlington rail and lumber yard at Main Street and Battery Street in Burlington. Officer McGrath was shot three times when he encountered an AWOL solider. Officer McGrath succumbed to his wounds while being transported to his home.
