Three bills to protect human trafficking victims passed a House committee in the state Capitol Thursday as nearly 200 people marched in Tallahassee for Anti-Human Trafficking Advocacy Day.

January is Human Trafficking Prevention Month!!

Signs a child is being groomed online for sexual exploitation:
What is child grooming? It's when someone establishes a personal connection with a child by building trust between them and using this child for their own advantage. Many children will not know they are being groomed.

Steps to online grooming:
-Stablishing the connection by pretending to be someone the same age
-Gaining their trust by being understanding/being "there" for them
-Learning the "likes" or dislikes of the child
-One thing we need to understand is that the predator does not need to meet the child in person, he/she can persuade the child to participate in online sexual activities by either webcam/smartphone. This is still considered sexual exploitation
-Predator sends pornographic pictures of themselves
-Predators can persuade the child to send pornographic pictures of themselves, once they have these pictures the perpetuator can and will turn on the child and threaten them with exposing their pictures online unless the child participated in other sexual exploited activities.
-This could lead to an in-person meeting

How often this happens? According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, approximately 1 in 7 Internet users between the ages of 10 and 17 fall victim to unwanted online sexual solicitation. According to the Sexual Exploitation of Children Over the Internet Bipartisan Staff Report 2007, The Federal Bureau of Investigation estimates that 50,000 child predators are online at any time searching for potential victims. And just as the number of child po*******hy images available on the Internet has increased, the number of websites offering child po*******hy images is multiplying.

Remember, a child may not know what is happening, why it happened, and/or how to fix it.
