Burlington School Food Project

Burlington School Food Project Burlington School Food Project is a program of Burlington School District promoting food access and equity to all kids in Burlington, and beyond.

Each school day, we serve more than 3,000 students anywhere between one and three free, nutritious meals. More than 33% of our food budget is from the local area including seasonal vegetables, dairy, meats, and fruits. Our growing Farm to School team manage a small farm, orchard, and greenhouse directly on school grounds which are used for education, summer camps, job training programs, and summer

courses. In 2014 we launched a food truck job training program called Fork in the Road. www.facebook.com/forkintheroadvt

Happy first day of school, Burlington! We are so happy to be back in the kitchens and seeing our students.

As a reminder, now that school has started, our Family Meal Kit program has come to an end. This means we wonโ€™t be out at our pick ups locations today and throughout the school year.

We are sad to end this great program but are happy to report we distributed over 25,000 Family Meal Kits since the program started in September of 2020!

We have so many people to thank for the success of this program but ultimately we thank all of the families who visited us at our Meal Kit sites over the year. This program was a success because of you!

Special thanks to our farmers, our student volunteers and of course our inspiring and dedicated school nutrition team. We could not have done this without you! Thank you to Boys & Girls Club of Burlington, Sara Holbrook Community Center, Burlington Parks, Recreation & Waterfront, Burlington School District, Pomykala Farm, Essex Alliance Church - North Ave Campus Hunger Free Vermont, Paul Mazza's, Reinhart Foodservice, Vermont Agency of Education, Pete's Greens, Vermont Bean Crafters, Hurricane Flats Farm, Couching Lion Maple Sugar Farm, and many MANY more!
