Burlington Township is a combined Career/ Volunteer Fire Department. Our mission is to serve and protect the residents, businesses, and visitors to our community. Burlington Township is roughly half way between Trenton and Camden NJ, with portions bordered by the Delaware River. The Burlington Township Fire Department serves approximately 22,660 residents and over 500 businesses in a 14.2 square mile area. The department also responds to incidents on 4 major highways/ commercial roadways that intersect the town, the NJ Turnpike, I-295, NJ Route 130 and County Route 541 as well as the Conrail/ NJ Transit Light Rail. The Fire District is governed by a 5 member Board of Fire Commissioners who are elected by the registered voters of the Township of Burlington. Station 301 - Fire District Headquarters

SLOW DOWN & MOVE OVER! 🚨

The Burlington Township Fire Department reminds everyone to please SLOW DOWN and MOVE OVER when approaching emergency vehicles with flashing lights.

If you see emergency lights ahead:
• SLOW DOWN and be prepared to stop.
• MOVE OVER to another lane when it is safe to do so.
• If you cannot move over safely, slow down and proceed with extreme caution.
• Stay alert and give emergency personnel the space they need to do their jobs safely.

Remember, when our firefighters, EMS personnel, law enforcement officers, tow truck drivers and construction crews are working on the roadway, they are putting themselves at risk to help others. A few seconds of caution can make the difference between everyone getting home safely and a preventable tragedy.

Please protect those who protect you!

DRYER FIRE PREVENTION: A FEW SECONDS CAN SAVE LIVES!

Did you know that lint buildup and blocked dryer vents can create a serious fire hazard in your home?

Help protect your family and home by following these important dryer safety tips:

• Clean the lint filter before or after every load.
• Keep the dryer vent clean and free of lint buildup.
• Never leave your dryer running while you are sleeping or away from home.
• Avoid overloading your dryer.
• Keep the area around your dryer clean and free of clutter.
• Check your vent hose to ensure it is not crushed, kinked, or blocked.
• Pay attention to warning signs. If you notice a burning smell, excessive heat, or clothes taking longer than usual to dry, stop using the dryer until the problem is checked.
• Make sure your smoke alarms are working to help protect your household.

IF A DRYER FIRE OCCURS:
• Get everyone out of the home.
• Call 911 from a safe location.
• Never open the dryer door if you suspect a fire inside.

Today, we had the pleasure of visiting Bernice Young School for Fire Prevention!

Our firefighters had a great time teaching the students about fire safety, answering questions, exploring the fire trucks, and most importantly sharing some important lessons that could help keep them and their families safe.

WHAT A NIGHT!!!

A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who came out to our Open House! We loved seeing so many families, and community members join us for an evening of fun, fire safety, and getting to know your local firefighters.

We also want to give a special thank you to all of our staff and members who volunteered their time, worked behind the scenes, and helped make the evening a success. Your dedication to our department and our community means so much.

And to all of the local small businesses and community supporters who donated to help make this event possible THANK YOU! Your generosity and support mean so much to our department and our community.

We are incredibly grateful for the continued support of Burlington Township Fire Department. We couldn’t do it without you!

REMINDER: October is Fire Prevention Month! Take a few minutes this month to check your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, practice your home escape plan, and talk with your family about fire safety. A little preparation can make a BIG difference!

Cooking Fire Safety Tips ‼️

Stay in the kitchen when cooking. Never leave cooking unattended.

Keep anything that can catch fire away from the stovetop, including towels, oven mitts, paper products, and packaging.

Keep pot handles turned inward so they can’t be bumped or pulled down.

Keep a lid nearby when frying or cooking with oil. If a small grease fire starts, slide the lid over the pan, turn off the burner, and leave it covered until completely cool.

Never use water on a grease fire. Water can cause burning oil to splatter and spread the fire.

If a fire starts in the oven, turn it off and keep the door closed. If the fire continues or you are unsure what to do, get outside and call 911.

Keep children and pets at least 3 feet away from cooking areas.

Clean your stovetop and oven regularly to prevent grease buildup.

Make sure your smoke alarms are working and have one on every level of your home and near sleeping areas.

If you leave the kitchen, turn the burner off. If you leave the home, turn everything off.

When in doubt, get out! If a cooking fire gets out of control, evacuate immediately, close the door behind you if possible, and call 911 from outside.
