Yesterday the BFD and BPD had the opportunity to do a Safety Pop-Up Booth at Walmart! When Visitors stopped by the table, they could ask questions, were reminded of some helpful fire and life safety tips, received free giveaways, and could check out the car temperature display which rose above 100 degrees this afternoon! As the summer progresses, please stay safe-test your smoke alarms monthly, stay hydrated, and make sure everyone (pets included) exit vehicles before they are locked! If you have questions or would like to have a Safety Pop-Up at your business, give us a call, 336-229-3133.

Suspect Arrested After Crime Spree

On June 10, 2026, at approximately 5:10 p.m., the Burlington Police Department responded to a series of incidents involving a motor vehicle crash, motor vehicle theft, and the activation of a fire alarm at the Burlington Police Department.

Following an investigation, responding officers determined that Jorge De Jesus Yepez Espinola, a 39-year-old male, was involved in a possible motor vehicle crash and subsequently fled the scene. Espinola then stole a nearby work van and drove it to the rear parking lot of the Burlington Police Department before entering the building and intentionally activating the fire alarm in the front lobby.

Shortly after the incident, officers located and arrested Espinola in a nearby business. He was charged with Felony Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, Injury to Real Property, and Giving False Fire Alarms. He was issued a court date of June 11, 2026, in the Alamance County District Court and was placed under a $5,000 secured bond.

Investigators also determined that the vehicle operated by Espinola before the theft of the work van, sustained damage to the driver's side and a tire. Officers have been unable to determine where the crash occurred or what object or property was struck. The vehicle was found in the area of 640 North Church Street, Burlington.

The Burlington Police Department is asking anyone who may have witnessed a motor vehicle collision involving a gray Honda Accord or who has information regarding damage to property in the area of 640 North Church Street on June 10, 2026, to contact the Burlington Police Department.

Initial bonds are set by a Magistrate and are subject to modification at any time by order of the Court.
