On the morning of Wednesday, July 31, a contingent of Albanian dignitaries visited City Hall for a briefing on the purpose and duties of the local Office of Emergency Management (OEM). Also discussed were the current threats Burlington faces, coordination procedures, and mitigation efforts that are taken to lessen or eliminate the impact of an emergency.
The visit began at 830 with a short power point
presentation in Council Chambers followed by questions and discussion. The group then moved to the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) for a tour and explanation of how we actually operate during an emergency. In addition to Mayor Barry Conaway, Councilman George Chachis, Captain Robert Elbertson, Administrator David Ballard, and City and County OEM officials, Master Sergeant Gary M. Davidson, Operations Sergeant, NJ National Guard Joint Operations Center also greeted our visitors, who included the following Albanian officials:
1. Mr. Haki Çako, Director General/ General Directorate of Civil Emergencies.
2. Mrs. Fatjona Xhaferi ,Expert/Civilian from General Directorate of Civil Emergencies.
3. LTC Robert Hysenllari, Staff Officer for SAR and Civil Emergencies/General Staff, Albanian Armed Forces.
4. Sabina Mitrovasili, Albanian Embassy Office of Defense Cooperation Event Coordinator (and Translator).
