๐จ BURLINGTON FIRE ANNUAL MASS CASUALTY INCIDENT DRILL ๐๐๐
Burlington Fire held its annual Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) Drill on Saturday in the field across from the Burlington Public Library.
This yearโs scenario simulated a serious motor vehicle crash involving a school bus and three passenger vehicles, with multiple simulated patients suffering a variety of injuries throughout the bus and vehicles. The scenario was intentionally designed to quickly overwhelm local resources and challenge responders to implement and exercise our Mass Casualty Incident protocols.
An exercise of this scale doesnโt happen overnight. Nearly 10 months of planning and coordination went into developing a realistic scenario that tested incident command, patient triage and treatment, resource management, communications, transportation, and mutual-aid coordination.
Recognizing that a real incident of this magnitude would require a significant regional response, we invited neighboring departments and agencies to participate alongside Burlingtonโs responders. Training together before an emergency occurs helps ensure that when we are called upon to work together, our personnel are prepared to operate as one team.
We sincerely thank all of the agencies, responders, volunteers, and participants who helped make this drill possible. Their commitment made this an outstanding opportunity to train, learn, and strengthen the partnerships we depend on to protect our communities.
