What a day for Downtown Burlington and the Burlington Downtown Corp.

Last Thursday, Aug. 27th, North Carolina Secretary of State Elaine F. Marshall brought her Rural RISE NC tour to Alamance County and Downtown Burlington for meaningful conversation and learning with local leaders, business owners and community stakeholders.

She started at the Alamance Community College's Biotechnology Center of Excellence with a roundtable including nine local businesses before heading to Burlington Beer Works for lunch. General Manager Tracy Schmidt (and owner of Tanner's Wine Bar) welcomed the Secretary and gave her a history of North Carolina's first co-op brewery.

After lunch, the Secretary took a stroll downtown and met with merchants to discuss wins, threats and opportunities:

*She donned an apron and helped make coffee at The Blend Burlington with help from owner Lucero Marti.

*Sec. Marshall saw a renovation-in-progress at Exhale Studio where owner Nicole Eilers is hard at work creating new studio space and second-floor residential with help from the City of Burlington, NC - Government small grants program.

*Wayne Beam of Wayne's Attic gave her a warm welcome at 247 E. Front St. before sharing details of the City's ongoing water and sewer enhancement project.

*Core Properties & Development and Burlington Food Hall Owner Wellsley Robinson described the Food Hall's renovation this summer. Miso bowls in the Food Hall had a lovely sample of their Korean bowls and chicken ready for the Secretary to try.

*Fresh off a grand opening ribbon cutting celebration on August 15th, Recovering Clay Owner Briggette Slivinksi showed the Secretary both floors of the new studio and described the community programming that has made the business a hot spot for everyone from first-time potters to experienced artists.

*Owners Chuck and Stephanie Braxton at Sursy showed off their plant store and bar combo, as well as introduced the new artisanal coffee bar at their location - Rogue Walrus Brewhouse

*Last stop was MVP Video & Promotions where owner Yvonne Morrison described a thriving downtown location offering a full slate of digital marketing services.

All of downtown was honored to host the North Carolina Secretary of State and to showcase the incredible businesses and people who make downtown such a great place to be. Thank you to everyone who made the Secretary's visit a special one.

4th Friday is not cancelled, just pivoting!
With storms expected earlier, we’re making a few changes to tonight’s 4th Fridays in Downtown! While our outdoor food trucks and vendors will not be set up downtown, the music is still on — and moving indoors!

What an AMAZING weekend in downtown Burlington celebrating The Vault Bar and Recovering Clay’s Grand Openings!

We are so excited to have these two business and their owners open their doors to the community and bring new experiences, ideas, and energy to the mix. They have worked incredibly hard to bring their visions to life and prepare for this day.

Thank you to everyone who came out including Beth Kennett for Burlington and Former Mayor Ian Baltutis. We can’t wait to see these businesses flourish!
