Burlington has a new way to get around, introducing The Link!
Leaders from Town of Burlington, MA & The City of Woburn gathered yesterday, August 31, to officially celebrate the launch of The Link, a new free, on-demand, all-electric shuttle service connecting Burlington and Woburn.
The one-year pilot gives riders another option for getting to work, appointments, shopping, dining, transit connections and other destinations throughout both communities. Unlike a traditional bus route, The Link does not follow a fixed schedule or set of stops. Riders request a trip when they need one and are matched with an available vehicle.
The service is operated by Circuit and funded through a Microtransit grant from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation as part of a regional partnership between Burlington, Woburn, Reading and Wakefield.
Burlington and Woburn make up one of The Link's two service zones. Riders can request trips anywhere within Burlington or Woburn, giving Burlington residents access to destinations throughout both communities. Riders can also use the service to travel to Lahey Clinic and Wi******er Hospital.
The second service zone connects Reading and Wakefield. Trips cannot be taken between the two zones, except for the hospitals noted above, which are accessible from either of the zones.
Rides are free and can be requested through the Ride Circuit app or by calling 781-782-2521.
The Link operates:
Monday through Friday: 7 AM – 7 PM
Saturday: 9 AM – 5 PM
*Please note, the Link is closed on Sundays.
The service uses all-electric vehicles and operates as a shared ride program, so riders may travel with other passengers headed in a similar direction. ADA-accessible vehicles can also be requested through the app or by phone. The goal of the program is to promote flexible, technology-enabled transit options that improve access to jobs, housing, education, and essential services, linking riders to transit hubs and key destinations.
