Zoomers to Boomers have been peacefully protesting the ICE surveillance facility in Williston in defense of our immigrant neighbors. History will remember them in the same way that we remember civil rights and anti-apartheid activists. All people of conscience should stand with the Williston 5 and the Williston 13. Vermont Attorney General Charity Clark is prosecuting thirteen individuals who peacefully protested the ICE surveillance facility in Williston. Two of the individuals are hopeful constituents of mine, including Linda Ayer. This is who the AG is choosing to prosecute: a senior citizen who uses a walker. I stand with Linda and the Williston 13 who are courageously standing with our neighbors against this fascist administration.

AG Clark has the power to drop the charges. I hope she listens. I’ve reached out to her office and haven’t heard back. This is a moment that demands courage from our elected officials, not capitulation.

I am outraged and disturbed by Attorney General Charity Clark’s decision to prosecute the thirteen individuals who were peacefully protesting the ICE surveillance facility in Williston. Two of the people charged live in my State Senate district. As Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. taught us, “one has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws.” These protestors represented true Vermont values by standing up for our neighbors against the barbarity of Donald Trump’s ICE. Attorney General Clark has the power to reverse this decision, and I hope she does. I have reached out to the AG’s office and will be monitoring the situation closely.

Joined Vermonters and Canadians at a solidarity rally in Montreal to declare: Not in Our Name. In the wake of the 9/11 attacks, Canadians did what Canadians do best: care for thy neighbor. I was proud to express my gratitude to them and condemn President Trump’s vicious trade war. In the Vermont State Senate, I look forward to working with Canadians to restore passenger rail service between Burlington and Montreal. Solidarity forever.
