TRAFFIC ALERT: US HIGHWAY 281 NORTH
Issued by the Burnet County Office of Emergency Management

US Highway 281 North is CLOSED to through traffic at FM 1855 due to a hazardous materials (HAZMAT) spill caused by a motor vehicle crash.

Emergency crews are on scene. The highway will stay closed until cleanup is finished and the area is confirmed safe for travel. There is no estimated time for reopening at this point.

Please avoid the area, use alternate routes, and drive with caution near the scene.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation while crews work to reopen the roadway safely.

♻️ Thank you for a great Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day! ♻️

🎉 This past Saturday’s Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) event was a huge success! We had a fantastic turnout from our community!

👏 A big THANK YOU to the volunteers pictured here who generously gave their time and energy to make the event run smoothly. We couldn’t do it without you!

♻️ And thank you to every community member who took time out of their Saturday to properly dispose of household hazardous waste. Every can of paint, bottle of chemicals, and battery collected means one less potential hazard in our landfills, waterways, and neighborhoods.

💚 Together, we’re keeping our county clean, healthy, and safe!

Recognized today at Burnet Commission's Court was the contributions of the Intermediate Sanctions Facility, the ISF work program, the ISF residents, and those who serve as temporary employees for the county. Thank you for everything you do for Burnet County.

On Tuesday, October 13, 2026 at the Burnet County Commission's Court passed an Adopt a Texas Extension Education Association (TEEA) proclamation to recognize October 4-10, 2026 as TEEA Week.

Attention this coming weekend Friday (October 9th) at 5 pm through Monday (October 12th) at 7 am, we will be doing some work on our building which will render our normal phones inoperable. Please use these two alternative numbers this weekend while our phones our down.
