Building Tomorrow Today: One Page at a Time!

September is National Literacy Month, and there's no better time to celebrate the power of reading, writing, and the lifelong opportunities that literacy creates.

Every book opened, every story shared, every new word learned, and every question asked is helping our students build the skills they need for tomorrow. 🧱📖

At BCISD, we know that building a strong future starts with building strong readers today. From classrooms to libraries, we're proud to nurture a love of learning and give our students the tools to imagine, create, communicate, and achieve.

The cross country teams traveled to Lago Vista on Friday, August 28, to compete in the 2026 Viking XC Invitational. The Bulldogs and Lady Dawgs faced a large field of runners from across Central Texas while taking on one of the area's more demanding cross country courses.
All teams turned in several strong performances throughout the morning, highlighted by a fourth-place varsity finish from Clark Yanez and an impressive group performance by the JV Bulldog boys.

Varsity Bulldogs
The varsity boys competed in the 5K, with junior Clark Yanez once again leading the way for our varsity boys. Yanez crossed the finish line in 17:20, placing fourth overall in a field of more than 100 runners.

Junior Isaac Vega was Burnet's second finisher, placing 17th overall with a time of 18:19. Sophomore Russell Ramirez followed close behind, finishing 19th in 18:27.

Junior, Chris Hernandez finished 38th in 19:21, while sophomore Cason Manning rounded out Burnet's top five in 43rd place with a time of 19:41. Sophomore Gabe Castillo was right behind in 47th at 19:47, and sophomore Jocsan Sanchez finished in 20:46.

The varsity boys displayed impressive depth, placing three runners among the top 20 overall and five among the first 43 finishers.

Varsity Lady Dawgs
The varsity girls competed over the two-mile course and were led by sophomore Kamila Palacios, who finished 30th overall with a time of 14:10.

Freshman Ximena Zarate was only six seconds behind, placing 35th in 14:16. Sophomore Brekyn Langley finished 47th in 14:50, followed by freshman Jayde Smith, who crossed the line in 54th at 15:06.

Senior Perla Rodriguez completed the Burnet varsity lineup with a time of 16:41.

Our young Lady Dawg varsity group continues to gain valuable racing experience, with four of Burnet's five runners in the Lago Vista varsity race being freshmen or sophomores.

JV Bulldogs
One of our strongest performances of the morning came from the JV boys in the two-mile race.

Junior, Jose Flores led the JV with an outstanding third-place finish, completing the course in 11:52.

Freshman Paxton Courtney and senior Austin Moore crossed the line together in 12:13, finishing seventh and eighth overall. Senior Adan Carreon gave Burnet another top-10 performance, placing ninth in 12:20.

Sophomore Leon Perez wasn't far behind, finishing 11th overall in 12:29.

That gave the Bulldogs an impressive five runners among the top 11 finishers in the JV race.

Sophomore Zachary Lindsay added a 29th-place finish in 13:04. Burnet was also represented by sophomore Christian Strauss-Cabrera, who finished in 14:57, and junior Angelo Ramirez, who completed the course in 15:52.

Junior Bella Lindsay led Burnet's JV girls, finishing the two-mile course in 16:45.

Junior Karla Rodriguez followed in 17:12, while sophomore Brooklyn Flores finished in 17:18. Senior Vanessa Chavez completed the race in 18:04, and sophomore Emily Montoya finished in 20:52.

Friday's meet provided another strong early-season test for us against a deep field of Central Texas programs.

Yanez's fourth-place varsity performance, three varsity Bulldogs finishing among the top 20, and the JV boys placing five runners in the top 11 highlighted an impressive morning for our teams.

Last week, our Bulldogs traveled to Llano to renew the rivalry with the Yellowjackets, and it was everything you would expect from a small-town Texas football rivalry.

Llano got on the board first with a 30-yard field goal before the Bulldogs answered with a 47-yard touchdown from Ethan Sanchez. Marco Campos then added a 44-yard field goal to give Burnet a 10-3 lead. Llano responded with 14 unanswered points to take a 17-10 lead into halftime.

Burnet came out of the locker room ready to respond, taking the opening second-half kickoff and driving the field. Bryan Johnson finished the drive with a 1-yard touchdown plunge to cut the lead to 17-24.

Once again, Llano answered with 14 points to extend their lead to 31-17 heading into the fourth quarter.That’s when the Bulldogs answered the bell.

Fisher Powell connected with Andrew Hudgins on a 44-yard touchdown pass to make it 24-31. Then, the Bulldogs caught Llano napping with a perfectly executed surprise onside kick by Marco Campos, with Andrew Hudgins recovering.

A few plays later, Bryan Johnson found the end zone again, this time on a bruising 8-yard run, tying the game at 31-31.

Unfortunately, Llano scored on a late touchdown pass with just 25 seconds remaining to make the final score 38-31.

The outcome wasn’t what we wanted, but we could not be more proud of our boys and their tremendous never-quit, never-say-die attitude. They battled until the very end and showed the kind of fight and character we want this program to represent.

I also can’t say enough about the atmosphere last week. It was everything you want from a small-town high school rivalry.

To everyone who made the trip, parents, students, and fans, THANK YOU! What an incredible showing. Our boys felt every bit of your passion and energy throughout the night.

And to our Band, Highlandettes, and Cheer, thank you for bringing the juice all night long! Your energy and support are a huge part of what makes this place so special.

The Bulldogs return home this Friday to take on the Taylor Ducks at 7:00 PM.

There’s a lot of green across BCISD today!

This year, every member of our team received a BCISD “Draft Shirt” recognizing the year they joined our district. Some were drafted just a few weeks ago. Others have been wearing the green for decades. But every shirt represents someone who chose to bring their talents to BCISD and be part of the work we’re doing for students.

We’re proud of the people Building Tomorrow Today! 💚
