Today, Oklahoma lost two heroes.

Two firefighters were killed in the line of duty while responding to a structure fire. In the process of answering the call to help others, they were involved in a fatal rollover accident and did not make it home.

There are no words that truly make sense on days like today. Just heartbreak.

To their families, their departments, and their brothers and sisters in the FIRE, EMS, PD, OHP, DISPATCH, TOWTRUCK service at Goldsby,

we are praying for you. We grieve with you. And we honor the sacrifice that was made in service to others.

This is also a reminder to all of us in emergency services:

Slow down.
Wear your seatbelt.
Watch out for each other.

Because the mission is not just to respond…
it’s to make it home.

Tonight, we hold the line a little tighter. We check on our people a little more. And we remember why safety matters

🖤 Rest easy, brothers.🚒🪽

Everyone made it back safely last night🙏
🚒 Task Force Deployment Update 🚒

Our firefighters, along with several surrounding departments, have been deployed by Task Force to Martha, OK to assist with a large grass fire.

Fighting fires in these strong winds is extremely dangerous and unpredictable, making conditions even more challenging for crews on the line.

Please keep all of these firefighters in your thoughts and prayers. Stay safe, watch out for each other, and stay HYDRATED.

We look forward to your safe return home. 🙏🔥

🚨🌬️ Weather Report 🌬️🚨

If you haven’t been outside yet, let us update you:
The wind is currently trying to relocate Burns Flat to Kansas.

We are under elevated fire weather conditions, which means it only takes one spark, one cigarette, or one bad decision for things to get western real quick.

Wind bursts reaching >50mph 💨

🔥 Please DO NOT burn today
🚬 Don’t throw ci******es out the window
🌾 Check on your neighbor’s trampoline… it might be halfway to Elk City by now.

Our local volunteer fire departments are on heightened alert today due to the elevated fire danger and strong winds. These men and women stand ready to respond at a moment’s notice, and the best way we can support them is by doing our part to help keep them safe.

Stay safe out there. And don’t forget to follow Burns Flat Volunteer Fire Department for all weather updates! Keep these guys/gals in your prayers 🫶🚒

🚑 Teamwork in Action 🚑

Today these two wonderful ladies completed an interfacility transfer, helping ensure a patient received the next level of care they needed. While these calls may not always have lights and sirens, they are a critical part of the healthcare system.

Interfacility transfers happen when a patient requires specialized treatment, diagnostics, or resources that a smaller facility may not have available. Rural hospitals and critical access emergency rooms do incredible work stabilizing patients, but sometimes those patients must be moved to larger hospitals with services such as trauma care, cardiology, neurosurgery, or advanced imaging.

This is where EMS steps in. Our crews are responsible for:
• Safely transporting the patient between facilities
• Continuing medical monitoring and treatment during the trip
• Communicating with both the sending and receiving hospitals
• Ensuring the patient remains stable throughout transport

These transfers also play a huge role in helping our local emergency rooms continue caring for their communities. When a patient needs services beyond what a rural ER can provide, transferring them allows the ER to free up space and resources for the next patient walking through the door.

Strong teamwork between EMS and our hospital partners keeps the system moving and ensures patients receive the right care at the right place.

Great work today, ladies! 👏
We appreciate your dedication to the patients and the community we serve.

❄️ WINTER WEATHER WARNING ❄️

Oklahoma weather is about to remind us who’s in charge. 🥶
With winter conditions moving into our area, Burns Flat EMS urges everyone to stay prepared and stay safe.

🚑 Safety Tips:
• Avoid unnecessary travel if possible
• Slow down and increase following distance
• Keep an emergency kit in your vehicle (blankets, water, flashlight, phone charger)
• Check on elderly neighbors and family
• If you must be on the road, let someone know your route and ETA

Our crews are ready to respond, but your safety starts before you ever call 911.
