Born in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, Rebuilding Hollers grew from neighbors helping neighbors into an incredible community-driven effort serving families throughout Yancey and Mitchell Counties. From providing essential supplies in the early days after the storm to helping repair and rebuild homes, their mission has remained focused on getting help directly to the people who need it most.

We’ll also celebrate another exciting chapter in their story—“A Million Miracles,” a book sharing the heart, determination, and remarkable story behind this grassroots rebuilding effort.

Come help us cut the ribbon, tour the new facility, and celebrate the volunteers, donors, neighbors, and community partners who continue to prove what can happen when a community comes together.

Once again, the series showcased a wide range of what our area has to offer, with learning, fun, and physical activity on full display. This year featured another story trail with Blue Ridge Partnership for Children, several opportunities to practice preparedness, Latin dance on the square, another amazing presentation of Reading is Alive, a nighttime movie showing, bike riding, robot building, and so much more.

We appreciate the title sponsor, AdventHealth, as well as the Town of Burnsville, NC, Yancey County Local Government, Natalie Gideon with RE/MAX Results Burnsville, AMY Wellness Foundation, and Ridge Regional Hospital for their support and sponsorship, which made the 2026 Sizzlin’ Summer Series possible.

Recently, our community gathered on the Burnsville Town Square to unveil a Hometown Heritage Marker honoring John "Yellowjacket" Bailey, one of the founders of Burnsville.

In 1834, John and his wife, Lovie, sold 100 acres of their farmland for just $1 an acre to create a county seat for the newly formed Yancey County. John then made the long journey on horseback to Raleigh to gain approval for the new town. With the help of Captain Otway Burns, the Town was officially established and named Burnsville in his honor.

Nearly 200 years later, John Bailey's legacy remains at the heart of our community. The Town Square itself was officially named Bailey Square in his honor in 1930.

We're proud to share this special moment celebrating an important piece of Burnsville 's history.

Chamber Member Highlight: Pieper Glass ✨

Today we’re proud to highlight Pieper Glass, a wonderful part of Yancey County’s rich arts community!

Located in the Celo community, Pieper Glass is the studio and gallery of accomplished glass artist Kenny Pieper. Kenny combines traditional European and Italian-influenced glassmaking techniques with his own contemporary style to create beautiful glass vessels, sculpture, and functional works of art. His work can be found in museums and private collections across the country.

Visitors can experience the impressive 4,500-square-foot studio and gallery, with the working hot shop downstairs and a gallery filled with finished pieces upstairs. Because this is a working artist studio, calling ahead before visiting is recommended.

Today, we want to highlight our Burnsville Town Square!

At the very heart of Burnsville sits a place that is so much more than a patch of grass-our beloved Town Square.

Burnsville was established in 1834, when John "Yellow Jacket" Bailey conveyed 100 acres for the new county seat. The Town Square was laid out that same year and has remained the center of our community life ever since. Standing watch over the Square is the statue of
Captain Otway Burns, the War of 1812 naval hero for whom Burnsville was named.

But the real history of the Square isn't only found in dates and monuments, it's found in the memories made there!

It's where generations have gathered for Crafts Fairs and 4th of July celebrations. It's where teenagers pose for Prom pictures and children laugh and play on warm summer mornings at Sizzlin ' Summer Series.

In the fall, it's filled with thousands celebrating Old Timey Days and Treat or Treat Main Street. In November, American flags surround the Square and we honor our heroes. At Christmas, it becomes part of the traditions that make the season feel like home.

And then there are all of the ordinary days-when we walk across the Square on the way to lunch, sit for a second, wave to someone we know, or just drive around it without giving it much thought.

For nearly 200 years, the Town Square has quietly watched Burnsville grow while remaining a constant in the center of it all.

It isn't just the center of our Town, it's the heart of our community. And, it's the keeper of our history, our celebrations and our memories!
