Burnsville Rotary meetings are a great place to hear from interesting speakers, community leaders, and business owners. This week, Graham Anderson from Lake Country Home Improvements presented at our club meeting.

Graham shared insights into how he markets his business and the creative ways he builds meaningful relationships in our community. His presentation underlined the importance of personal connections, trust, and community involvement in growing a successful local business.

Thank you to Maridel Sandberg, Founder and President of Together for Good, for joining the Burnsville Rotary Club and sharing the inspiring mission of this special nonprofit.

Together for Good works to keep children safe and families together by providing voluntary crisis and respite care while parents navigate a crisis or chronic stress.

Through volunteers, parent advocates, and wraparound support, the organization steps in before a family reaches the breaking point. They support families, working to prevent children from entering foster care whenever possible.

Service comes in many forms, and sometimes it’s as simple as a hot dog and a smile.

This week, Burnsville Rotarians had the pleasure of serving a free hot dog lunch to the young campers at Neill Park in Burnsville. It was a great chance to connect with kids and support our community. Rotarian Laurie Thulien’s grandkids (Rotarians in Training) even helped out at the event!

Whether we’re leading service projects, supporting local nonprofits, or sharing food with our neighbors, Rotary is committed to creating lasting impact right here in Burnsville.

One of the greatest benefits of being a Rotarian isn’t just the opportunity to serve. It’s the relationships that we forge with each other along the way.

At Burnsville Rotary, we’re proud of the difference we make through community service projects, grants, scholarships, and support for local nonprofits. But the ties we build with one another are just as meaningful.

This week, we spent happy hour time with each other and took a pontoon ride on Crystal Lake! Thanks, Ali Awad, for hosting!

Thank you to Pamela Voight for joining the Burnsville Rotary Club on Monday and sharing an update on the impactful work of BrainPower in a BackPack.

BrainPower in a BackPack ensures that local students have access to nutritious, easy-to-prepare food over weekends and school breaks. This not only nourishes students but also reduces stress for families and helps kids return to school ready to learn.

Did you know that BrainPower in a BackPack started with help from a Burnsville Rotary grant? Since then, they have grown to more than 700 volunteers, annually contributing over 4,700 hours while providing more than 295,000 meals and 183,000 pounds of food!

We are grateful for Pamela’s passion, leadership, and commitment to supporting students in our community. Thank you for reminding us that even small acts of service can make a lasting impact on students’ lives.

The Burnsville Rotary Club is proud to support organizations like The Link and its C.O.R.E. (Community, Outreach, Resources & Empowerment) Drop-In Center, which provides young people experiencing or at risk of homelessness in Dakota County with essentials like meals, clothing, showers, laundry, transportation assistance, and connections to housing and long-term support. Thank you to Kenz Becco, Executive Director of Hold Your Horses, for an inspiring presentation at a recent club meeting. We appreciate Hold Your Horses’ vision of creating safe, inclusive spaces where everyone can experience the healing power of nature, animals, and community.

Kenz shared how, through animal-assisted mental health therapy, occupational therapy, and community programs, the organization provides a welcoming space where children, adults, and families can find connection, resilience, and hope in partnership with horses and the natural world.

Thank you to Emily Benz from Little Free Library for joining the Burnsville Rotary Club and sharing how this remarkable organization is building community, inspiring readers, and expanding access to books.

According to Emily, a simple idea has grown into a worldwide movement, with more than 200,000 Little Free Libraries in 128 countries and an estimated 500 million books shared. Each library creates an inviting place where neighbors can “take a book, share a book” while encouraging literacy, generosity, connection, and a lifelong love of reading.

We are grateful to Emily for helping us better understand Little Free Library’s impact and the important role each of us can play in making books more accessible. Thank you, Emily and Little Free Library, for turning small boxes of books into powerful sources of opportunity and community!
