Yancey County Sheriff’s Office Kids Camp Combines Fun, Education and Community Connection
The Yancey County Sheriff’s Office recently hosted Kids Camp, giving local children an opportunity to spend time with deputies while learning more about law enforcement and the community around them.
The camp was filled with fun and hands-on activities, including demonstrations with the Sheriff’s Office K-9s and drones, fishing, Yancey EMS, Grandfather Mountain, Mountain Mitchell State Park Rangers and a trip to the mountain coaster. Special activities were also provided for children from the Mountain Air community through grant funding.
The goal of Kids Camp was more than just having a good time. It was an opportunity for children to build positive relationships with law enforcement officers, ask questions, learn about the work deputies do, and create memories in a safe and positive environment.
The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank everyone who helped make Kids Camp possible. The support from our community and our partners allows us to continue providing opportunities like this for the children of Yancey County.
Sheriff Shane Hilliard said, “Our kids are our future, and anytime we can spend time with them, have fun with them, and build positive relationships, it is time well spent. We want them to know that our deputies are here for them and that they can trust and talk to us.”
