Today, the Yancey County Sheriff’s Office and Yancey County EMS celebrated a very special friend/deputy Justin, on his 35th birthday! 🎉 After enjoying his birthday celebration, Justin finished the day by going on shift and helping answer animal service calls. We are thankful for his hard work, kind heart, and the joy he brings to our team every day. Happy 35th Birthday, Justin! 🐾🚔

The Yancey County Sheriff's Office proudly congratulates Gina Duncan, Yancey County's 911 PSAP Manager, on earning her Associate Degree in 911 Communications & Operations from Richmond Community College.

Traffic Stop Leads to Major Methamphetamine Trafficking Conviction and Prison Sentence

The Yancey County Sheriff's Office announces the conviction and sentencing of Jerome Frederick Honeycutt following a traffic stop conducted by Deputy Myria Hylemon, and a subsequent search of the vehicle by Detective Brandon Wilson in March 2025.
As a result of the investigation and subsequent prosecution, Honeycutt pled guilty to the following charges:

(2) Counts of Felony Trafficking in Methamphetamine
Felony Maintain Vehicle/Dwelling Place for Controlled Substance
Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell, and Deliver Co***ne
Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell, and Deliver Methamphetamine
Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

On May 5, 2026, Honeycutt was sentenced to 70–93 months in prison and ordered to pay a mandatory $50,000 fine.
The Yancey County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to aggressively combating the distribution of illegal narcotics within our community and holding offenders accountable through proactive enforcement efforts and strong partnerships within the judicial system.
