Catalyst achieves their mission through The Garage in Burnsville, MN and The Treasury in St. Paul, MN which are all ages (no 18+ or 21+ restrictions), alcohol free, music

The board of Twin Cities Catalyst Music announces today their intention to wind down operations in the summer of 2025. For the past 10 years, Twin Cities Catalyst Music has operated The Garage, an all-ages, substance-free venue in Burnsville, Minnesota, along with youth music education programming through the Burnsville Youth Collective and other workshop and recording studio opportunities.

The board paused booking operations for 2025 with the intention of evaluating options and the current environment for the organization. After reviewing the philanthropic landscape, potential business model shifts, booking relationships, and the needs of Catalyst’s educational partners, the board has determined that there is not a path forward for Catalyst in a way that is financially viable and delivers on our mission of all-ages music access and education. The responsible course of action is to sunset this organization to make space for new possibilities. The Garage is owned by the City of Burnsville, and will return to the City for any future operations.

We want to thank all the artists, audiences, students, and staff of Twin Cities Catalyst Music over the past decade. The Garage existed before Catalyst, and the recent Minneapolis Music Census shows an ongoing need for all-ages venues and spaces for artists to develop their skills and people to enter into the live entertainment industry. We are grateful to have been of service to this community and scene. Support your local independent venues and artists. 🤘⚡

Young people deserve access to safe, inclusive spaces to develop their love of music, explore their creative pursuits, and build professional skills.

That has been at the core of Catalyst Music’s mission for almost 10 years, and at the heart of youth programming at The Garage for over 25 years.

Earlier this month the Catalyst board made the difficult announcement that Catalyst Music would pause booking shows at The Garage in 2025. We are not laying off staff, we have dedicated, talented people who are working to reimagine and re-establish Catalyst and The Garage in the new year. We will be continuing with our youth music education programming through the Burnsville Youth Collaborative, as well as offering The Garage and the recording studio for rental.

None of this moves forward without community support. Here are some ways you can help:

- Make a special year-end donation – individual donors have always been critical to Catalyst’s success. https://givebutter.com/allages

- Show off your love for all ages music with Catalyst swag, delivered right to you! https://www.catalystmusic.org/store

- Catch a show – two more on Friday and Sunday. https://dice.fm/venue/the-garage-aw82

- Rent The Garage’s recording studio or venue space for your project or event, let’s work together! https://www.catalystmusic.org/facility-rentals

A message from the Twin Cities Catalyst Music Board of Directors:

The board of directors of Twin Cities Catalyst Music, the 501(c)3 nonprofit organization which operates The Garage, the all-ages, substance free venue in Burnsville, announced today that The Garage will not be booking or presenting shows for 2025. Catalyst will focus on its core mission of youth music education programming, as well as recording and venue rental opportunities.

This was not an easy decision to come to, because safe, all-ages venues and stages to play are critical to nurturing the next generation of performers. This decision comes with the financial reality of rising costs of booking shows, changing audience patterns, and shifting donor support which made the current presenting model for Catalyst unsustainable into 2025. Shows through December will be presented, with the Matt Weiman and Co., Dinheiro, Minty Hippo, Whitetail show on 12/22 the last of Catalyst’s booking presentation at this point.

Catalyst’s core youth programming has direct grant support to ensure its continued offering. Focusing on our core mission of youth music education will strengthen Catalyst’s programming and partnership opportunities, and make the most effective use of the studio and venue space at The Garage while we reassess booking, and find the right way to continue delivering on our mission. We want to thank all the organizational and venue staff who have worked so hard to deliver on Catalyst’s mission, create great concert experiences, and support all-ages shows for almost 10 years.

You can continue to support Catalyst’s youth music and music industry education through donations, the Backline Program, and merch. Questions about booking, partnership inquiries, and rentals can be directed to [email protected].
