Every year during the second week of April we recognize the vital role 911 dispatchers play in the public safety community. The critical work they perform for citizens and for us at the fire department often goes without recognition. The President for APCO International said, "You have impacted lives daily, you have been the calm voice in someone’s darkest hour, and you have been the only hope for many in their most dire moments. You have been challenged greatly and you have stood strong." This couldn't be more true.

Thank you Genesee County 911 for all that you do!

Residents - we are asking for your assistance. One of our CPR devices (LUCAS device) and a red bag used for pediatric care was taken from our ambulance earlier this week. This device does not have any use for someone outside of the department but is extremely important for the care of our patients.

If you have any information regarding this incident, please contact the Orion Township Fire Department or the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department. If you are in possession of this device or the bag, please return it to any of the four fire stations, no questions asked.

A police report has been filed regarding this incident, but we need your help!

Helpful tip to keep in mind with the upcoming snow!

A local builder brings about a very good point today...if you have a HVAC system that is a high efficiency setup, please please keep it clear of snow. Issues ranging from your furnace failing to work, to potential carbon monoxide poisoning can occur.

The twenty years I spent in public safety going on carbon monoxide runs turned out good almost all of the time, but some did not.

Let’s keep everyone safe, warm, and free of issues with this snow storm that may come...

As the snow accumulates over the next 48 hours please remember to clear any nearby fire hydrants. Someone's home, business, or life may depend on it.

This applies to Burton residents as well, if you have a hydrant on your property, please consider clearing the snow around from it. You’re not just helping yourself but your neighbors as well!

NYC homeowners and business owners – prepare to shovel a path to hydrants so they are visible to FDNY in case of emergency. Any delay in fire companies locating hydrants and getting water on a fire endangers the lives of both Firefighters and civilians. See more #FDNYSmart tips at fdnysmart.org

One of our firefighters (GBCFD) was on his way to Cleveland and stopped in a small town. He struck up a conversation with a guy and he took our firefighter to see something he was passionate about. When I was looking through his photos, this one stuck out to me.....proof that Ken Gould has been on since the horse drawn carriages Photo credit to Jeremy Jones
