We are currently accepting applications for the position of Paid-on-Call Firefighter. We anticipate beginning the hiring process near the end of May. If you are 18 years of age, live in or within 1 mile of Burton, have a high school diploma or GED, and have reliable transportation please stop in and see us or give us a call. This is a great opportunity to give back to the community.

This year we are doing all we can to help the Salvation Army to "Stop COVID from Stealing Christmas". We are collecting bottles and cans for the Salvation Army as well as helping with their toy drive and Coats for Kids. Bottles, cans, coats, hats, scarves, and toys can all be dropped off at our headquarters located at 1320 S., Belsay Rd., Burton, MI 48509 from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday thru Friday all the way up until December 24th. We will also be doing a special toy drive event in the parking lot of the Burton Walmart on December 12, 2020 from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm.

Stop by our Fire Station 1 and 2 this Halloween for a treat 5pm-730pm. Our Station 3 personnel will be out in the community handing out candy.
This year will be a little different, we will have a table set up outside the bay doors and our buildings and apparatus(Trucks) will be unavailable for tours due to the current pandemic. Please remember to social distance. As always, Stay safe and we will see you Saturday!!

We have recently fielded several questions as to why our burning ordinance does not allow residents to burn leaves. The reason is because the DEQ prohibits it in a municipality of our size. Below is an excerpt from Act 451 of 1994.
NATURAL RESOURCES AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION ACT (EXCERPT)
Act 451 of 1994
324.11522 Open burning of grass clippings or leaves; open burning of household waste; materials; violation; extension of prohibition to materials not listed in subsection (3); open burning of wooden fruit or vegetable storage bins constructed from untreated lumber; requirements; effect of local ordinance; burning of United States flag.
Sec. 11522.
(1) The open burning of grass clippings or leaves is prohibited in any municipality having a population of 7,500 or more, unless specifically authorized by local ordinance, which ordinance shall be reported to the department of natural resources within 30 days of enactment.
(2) Subsection (1) does not permit a county or municipality to authorize open burning of grass clippings or leaves by an ordinance that would otherwise be prohibited under part 55 or rules promulgated under that part.

We are very honored to have Mike as part of our team and he has played an integral role in advancing our fire inspection program to ensure our local businesses are safe for employees and citizens alike as well as helping to give our training programs the boost they needed. On this night 19 years ago 246 people went to sleep in preparation for their morning flights. 2,606 people went to sleep in preparation for work in the morning. 343 firefighters went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift. 60 police officers went to sleep in preparation for morning patrol. 8 paramedics went to sleep in preparation for the morning shift of saving lives. None of them saw past 10:00am Sept 11, 2001. In one single moment life may never be the same. Tonight as you go to sleep in preparation for your life tomorrow, kiss the ones you love, snuggle a little tighter, and never take one second of your life for granted.

Your Burton Firefighters are back to a normal training schedule and are staying prepared to serve you when the time arises. Today’s AM training consisted of Ladder Operations, Fireground Tactics, and Water Supply with Firefighters from all three stations training! With the recent arrival of Station 1’s Ladder 1 we continue to train with the truck to remain proficient, we even had Battalion Chief Raysin climbing the ladder! #BurtonFire
