The Fire Department will NOT fill your pool.
We'll agree, it would be a relatively quick way to get your pool summer-ready. However, here are few reasons why we just won't do it:
1. Water that comes from fire hydrants is unmetered.
2. Emptying our tanks for your recreational use just makes zero sense in case of an actual emergency.
3. We simply don't have the time or resources to fulfill this type of request for every pool owner in our city.
We hope you have a good time this summer and remember water (& fire!) safety tips to keep you and your loved ones safe!
Congratulations to Firefighter Ben Picard for becoming a certified Firefighter today passing the state practical and written exam.
Now is the time to apply. If you are intested in helping your community please stop by and see us.

Smoke Detectors Really Do Save Lives!
Without the working smoke detectors there is no doubt that this fire would have resulted in statistics that none of us want to report. Fortunately, everyone made it out unharmed and there were no injuries to firefighters.
At 01:58 hours on November 2, 2021 the City of Burton Fire Department was dispatched to a very well involved residential structure fire in a single family dwelling. The residents advised they had been sleeping when they were awaken by the smoke detectors going off in the home. As the residents arose from their sleep they found fire in the kitchen and evacuated. The smoke detectors that woke the residents had just been installed free of charge by the City of Burton Fire Department on July 7, 2021 as part of our smoke detector program. The department had installed 4 devices in the 945 square foot home, a smoke detector in each of the two bedrooms and a smoke/CO detector in the basement and the hallway on the first floor. It was most likely the smoke/CO detector in the hallway on the first floor that alerted the residents. Though the City of Burton Fire Department has had a long history of providing free smoke detectors to residents, we have had a partnership with MI Prevention since its inception. All of the detectors installed on July 7, 2021 were Kidde 10 year devices. Below is a still shot from the dash cam of the first arriving unit.

The Burton Police Department has created a program called Community And Resident Equality Services (CARES). This program is made up of officers from every rank of our department and will also include community members. Our plans of having neighborhood watch meetings were put on hold during this pandemic, but we are still working strong to better serve the community.
You will see new programs and ideas being put into action throughout the summer. One of those is pictured here. The CARES team discussed ways to let residents know when they observe concerns about potential theft risks or other observations they have about a property. We decided to create these door hangers. If officers observe a concern about your property while on patrol, the officers will fill out these hangers and place them on your door. These are just for informational purposes.
Communication is paramount to our policing strategy. If you have questions about the note, please call our office.
