A little bit of history....
Bush grew up around the Western Coal and Mining Co., a subsidiary of the Missouri Pacific Railroad. Louis, Iron Mountain and Southern Railroad and president of the mining company. Bush later became president of the Missouri Pacific Railroad. A company store was opened in Bush in 1903, managed by John H. Pumphrey, who became the first postmaster the following year.n Apr
il 12, 1912, a week after the Titanic disaster, a tornado struck Bush. Twenty-two two-story houses were in the direct path of the storm. Fifteen people were killed outright and others died later of injuries. The railroad roundhouse and store were blown away. Thirteen years later, on March 18, 1925, the tri-state tornado also struck Bush, killing seven people and injuring 80. The roundhouse was partially destroyed and railroad losses reached $50,000. Of 323 houses in the village of Bush, 33 were destroyed and 158 damaged.
