Saverio John Rea was a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps from Troy, New York, who served during WWII in the Pacific campaign. While assigned to the Marine Scout Bombing Squadron (VMSB) 223 Saverio’s plane went down in the Pacific Ocean in a non-combat related accident on June 9th, 1943. Mr. Rea ‘s remains were never found and he is memorialized here at Saratoga National Cemetery Section M1 site 41. Mr. Rea was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, American campaign medal, Marine Corps presidential unit citation, Marine good conduct medal, Asiatic-Pacific campaign medal and the Marine corps Expeditionary medal. We thank him and everyone who made the ultimate sacrifice during WWII and all wars. We are forever grateful for his service.

Attention all Veteran artists, actors, dancers, musicians and writers! It’s that time of year again!

Veterans, here is your opportunity to share your creative talents with us!

NF/SGVHS will begin collecting submissions for the 2025 NF/SG VHS Creative Arts Festival. All entries must be received by Friday, July 31st, 2026. For more information please visit the NF/SG Creative Arts Therapy website https://www.va.gov/north-florida-health-care/programs/creative-arts-therapies/ local event will take place in the Malcom Randall VAMC Auditorium August 24th-28th, 2026. The art and writing exhibit will be open to the public August 24th-28th from 0900-1500. Veteran led workshops will occur Monday through Friday from 1000-1200 and live showcases will occur Monday through Friday from 1300-1500.
