The Sheriffs Office arrived this morning to find someone had placed a Christmas tree in our lobby! Upon further inspection of our cameras, we found the tiny culprit sneaking out!

It’s November 1st and that can only mean one thing... it’s time for Beards For Kids to start! Like in years past, the Sheriff has agreed to let the deputies grow Beards for the month of November BUT they must collect “sponsorships” for them to grow it out (they are usually required to be clean shaven at all times) and they gather those continued sponsorships by going out and getting donations from the wonderful people in our community throughout the month! Every single dollar donated goes into our Sheriffs Community Benefit Fund which sponsors our “shop with a Deputy” program at Christmas time and also goes towards other needs in our community throughout the year. BUT this year we are adding a NEW way to donate! Introducing RIBS FOR KIDS! You can order racks of ribs from Jackwagon BBQ and the money for every rack of ribs sold ALSO goes into that benefit fund!! Check out the flyer and if you have questions or wish to donate get ahold of ANY deputy, detective, or corrections officer at the Bates County Sheriffs Office and we are more than happy to answer questions and take donations!! We are SOOO excited about this program and we are looking to double our donations from last year!! Please help the deputies grow their beards and in turn support shop with a Deputy and other needs for those in our community!

The school year is quickly approaching! (Insert loud sighs from students and silent cheers from adults) Here are a few safety tips to prepare for back to school. Remember don’t post your house numerics in those obligatory back to school photos. Hide those phone numbers and names on the INSIDE of their back packs... those pretty names on the outside of backpacks gives strangers an “in” when approaching your child. Talk to your kids about TRUSTED ADULTS, and keep in mind strangers aren’t always the danger (a lot of child abuse cases both physical and sexual are committed by someone the child knows) and be sure your child knows basic body safety rules. Remind kids that no adult should be asking your child to keep secrets or things from parents. Talk about after school routines and what happens if there is a change to those plans. Make sure kids home alone after school are comfortable being there alone and make sure there is a list of emergency phone numbers and their address posted in an easily spotted place (like the fridge, because in a panic even a kid who knows their address and phone number will forget them when in distress) And most of all talk to your kids about being kind and respectful to everyone! Be safe and have a great school year!
