Here is our upcoming week at glance!

04/25/2026

One hundred and thirty-six years ago, on April 24th, 1890, 63 women from 17 states across the country formally adopted the constitution of the newly-formed General Federation of Womenโ€™s Clubs.

Their commitment to each other paved the way for the immeasurable impact clubwomen have had on the world. Today, we celebrate the founding of the General Federation of Women's Clubs and the incredible members who dedicate their lives to serving others.

We hope you have had fun celebrating LIBRARY JOY during National Library Week, we cannot believe it is almost over.

But never fear, we have something super exciting to look forward to next month.

Presenting.....THE ULTIMATE USED BOOK HAUL!

For $20, you purchase a pass and then you fill up your own container.....it can be a bag, a wagon, a tote bin, a suitcase......as long as you can carry it (or wheel it in and out of the library), you can fill it!

Passes can be purchased in advance, beginning May 1. We actually recommend purchasing them early!

As you plan to purchase a pass and shop to your heart's content, please keep the following things in mind:
The pass is good for ONE use only.
Passes must be purchased with CASH ONLY.
YOU MUST BRING THE PASS WITH YOU WHEN YOU REDEEM IT!
YOU HAVE TO HAVE YOUR OWN CONTAINER!

Booksellers and book dealers are welcome!

If a pass is not for you, individual items can also be purchased (but man the pass is a DEAL!)

All proceeds directly benefit the library, so grab a pass and a container, and help wipe out our inventory!

If you have questions, please contact Nicole at [email protected]

Happy National Library Day!

If you love libraries, like we do, you have two notable Pennsylvanians to thank.

Benjamin Franklin created the first successful subscription library, known as the Library Company of Philadelphia, in 1731. Later, in 1786, he donated books to aid in the creation of the country's first free public library, the Franklin Public Library in Franklin, Massachusetts, established in 1790.

Starting in 1883, steel magnate Andrew Carnegie donated approximately 56 million dollars to establish 2,509 public libraries throughout the world. Of those Carnegie Libraries, 1,682 were built in the United States. The very final library commissioned by Carnegie within the state of Pennsylvania, and one of the last ones in the country was our very own Butler Area Public Library!

Recently, the Carnegie Corporation surprised all existing Carnegie established libraries with a $10,000 grant in honor of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the declaration of independence!

We adore the fact that the paths of these two men converged in a way that helped create our library. Thank you to both of them, and all of you, for loving and supporting libraries!
