FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE (KEY MESSAGES):
Update as of 12:15 PM Mar 15, 2026
Increasing confidence in widespread severe weather from this evening through Monday morning for all of North and Central Georgia. However, exact timing/duration still remains highly uncertain.

The main line of strong to severe thunderstorms associated with a strong cold front will move from west to east across the area beginning Sunday Night and lasting until it pushes east of the area by Monday afternoon.
At least a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 3) for severe weather covers all of North and Central Georgia for this time period.
Widespread sub-freezing temperatures will follow the strong cold front which is likely to pose a significant threat to spring crops and vegetation.

WHAT:
Severe Potential: Damaging winds (up to 60 mph) and a tornado are possible in the vicinity of the warm front this afternoon.
Damaging winds (up to 70 mph or more) and a few tornadoes are the main threat associated with the line and for any stronger cells forming out ahead of the line.
Sub-freezing Temperatures: Widespread lows in the 20s to low 30s are forecast.
Wind chills in the teens to low 20s are forecast areawide.
WHERE & WHEN:
Severe Potential: There is still quite a bit of uncertainty as far as exact timing/duration of the cold front as it pushes through Central Georgia. There are some indications that it may slow and/or stall near Interstate 85 which would result in the severe weather threat extending into late Monday morning and early Monday afternoon for much of Central Georgia.

North and West Georgia: Sunday Evening through Early Monday Morning
Central Georgia/East-Central Georgia: A lower risk for This Afternoon (Sunday) and then again Monday morning into early afternoon (primary concern).
Sub-freezing Temperatures: Expected both Monday Night/Tuesday Morning AND Tuesday Night/Wednesday Morning

IMPACTS:
-Severe weather, namely damaging winds and tornadoes, are likely to result in downed trees/powerlines or cause some structural damage.
-Numerous power outages are possible.
-Heavy rainfall with any strong/severe storms may pose a threat for localized flooding.
-Sub-freezing Temperatures: will pose a significant threat to spring crops and vegetation.

FORECAST CONFIDENCE:
-MEDIUM to HIGH confidence on occurrence of severe weather.
-MEDIUM confidence in exact timing/duration of severe threat.
-HIGH confidence in widespread sub-freezing temperatures.

Want to know what makes your Chief happy? Days like today make me happy. Taylor County Fire Department, Georgia and City of Butler Fire Department did a combined training. We also had members from Reynolds, Perry and Thomaston fire department join us. Training together as one, lets you build trust and respect for each other. Today, we took an 8 hour Pressurized Container class. The class consists of 4 hours class room and 4 hours of live fire. I want to thank Butler Fire Department for allowing us to use their facility. I’d also like to thank Partners Propane for setting up and supplying the propane for the class.

Taylor County Fire Department, Georgia had their 2025 awards banquet last night. This banquet was to not only honor the present firefighters but to honor our late Chief, Jamason Byrd. We presented Jamason’s family with a plaque that shows us retiring his number (801) and we also named the firefighter of the year award in honor of him.

The following was also presented. Brandon Bell, Firefighter of the year. Todd Brearley and Avery Character, Most Improved Firefighters of the Year. Chris Fox received the Chiefs award.

One goal of mine as Chief, is to build the relationship between each department in the County. We presented City of Butler Fire Department and Reynolds fire Department with a battery operated blower.

As a new Chief, I’ve had a lot of help learning the aspects of this position. One person that has helped me and this community is David Windham. David was presented a new shield. Another individual that is always helpful is Brandon Maddox. Brandons dedication to this community goes above and beyond everyday. We presented Brandon with a new shield as well

As I close, I just want to say, thank you is never enough for the firefighters and all first responders. Each one of the people do this to help their community without hardly any rewards in return. Next time you see a first responder, thank them.
