OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 24, 2026

Butler Market Temporarily Closed Following Final Fire Inspection

Butler, Kentucky — At approximately 1:00 p.m. today, the Northern Pendleton Fire District conducted a final fire inspection at Butler Market, located on Front Street in the City of Butler.

As a result of the inspection, the business was temporarily closed due to identified life-safety concerns and violations of applicable fire codes.

In early June, the Northern Pendleton Fire District received several complaints concerning potential fire code violations at the business. Following those complaints, the Fire District conducted inspections and provided the business with multiple opportunities to correct identified deficiencies. It is important to note, that this has been an investigation that has been ongoing for months with multiple inspections and attempts to have issues corrected.

During today's final inspection, additional life-safety concerns and fire code violations were identified. Due to the nature of the violations and the potential risk to occupants, the Northern Pendleton Fire District determined that temporary closure was necessary until the identified issues can be properly addressed.

The Northern Pendleton Fire District has been deputized by the Kentucky State Fire Marshal's Office to exercise authority regarding fire code enforcement matters of this nature. With the authority of KRS and KAR.

For Butler Market to resume normal business operations, the business will be required to correct the identified fire code violations and life-safety concerns. Additionally, the required electrical work must be evaluated and inspected by a licensed electrician. Once the necessary corrections have been completed and required documentation has been provided, the Northern Pendleton Fire District will conduct a follow-up inspection to determine whether the property is safe for occupancy and eligible to reopen.

The Northern Pendleton Fire District emphasizes that fire inspections and code enforcement are conducted to protect life, property, firefighters, employees, customers, and the community as a whole.

The Fire District will continue to work with local businesses to promote fire safety, code compliance, and safe occupancy throughout the communities it serves.

What a FUN day yesterday was! 🚒💦☀️

Firefighters of the Northern Pendleton Fire District along with Assistant Chief Reis, Lieutenant Trent, and Junior Firefighter Reis, had an awesome afternoon with the children at the Butler Learning Center!

We spent the afternoon talking about fire safety, learning a little about what firefighters do, and of course… having some water activities! 💦🚒

A huge THANK YOU to the Butler Learning Center for inviting us! This is something our crew looks forward to every year, and we’re pretty sure the kids look forward to it just as much! ❤️

We love getting out into our community and making memories with the next generation. Stay safe, stay cool, and keep having fun! 👨‍🚒👩‍🚒

Thank you, Butler Learning Center! We’ll see you next time🚒❤️💦
