In-person early voting reminder!

Reminder!

In-person early voting for the 2026 general election is underway and continues through Saturday, October 31.

Registered Granville County voters may utilize any of the four polling places during the in-person early voting period.

An Update on Lake Holt

Lakeside Grill at Lake Holt will close following its final day of operation on Saturday, November 7, 2026. The Town of Butner would like to thank Alicia Chamberlain for her eight years of operating Lakeside Grill at Lake Holt. We appreciate the time and effort she has invested in serving our community.

Given recent social media discussion regarding the upcoming closure, the Town would like to provide some background on the situation and share plans for Lake Holt moving forward.

Why is Lakeside Grill closing?

The Town contracts with private operators to provide concessions at Lake Holt. The previous concessionaire operated from 2009 to 2018, followed by Ms. Chamberlain, who began operating Lakeside Grill in 2018.

In December 2024, the Fire Marshal identified a fire code compliance issue involving cooking methods that produce grease-laden vapors. In 2025, the Town began exploring solutions to address the issue, including the installation of a commercial kitchen hood system and building renovations necessary to support a hood system. In 2026, the Town proceeded with design work and put the project out to bid. Bids were opened on September 24, with the lowest bid totaling $544,052.23. Due to the higher-than-expected cost, the Town determined it could not fund the renovations at that price using taxpayer dollars.

The Town also explored alternatives to the proposed renovation, asking the concessionaire to consider changes to cooking methods or menu offerings that could meet the Fire Marshal’s requirements without the need for extensive building renovations. The concessionaire has elected to end operations, with the final day of Lakeside Grill scheduled for Saturday, November 7, 2026.

What does this mean for Lake Holt?

Lake Holt will remain open to the public! Beginning November 1, winter gate hours will be 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Walkers may park at the front gate and access the park between dawn and dusk. Use of the boat docks and lake access will remain free to the public while the Town works toward establishing future concession operations. Shelter reservations can be made by calling Butner Town Hall at (919) 575-3032.

The Town plans to seek a new concessionaire for the 2027 spring and summer season. Businesses, food trucks, and vendors interested in providing food service are encouraged to contact Town Hall to be added to the interest list.

We thank Ms. Chamberlain for her eight years of service and remain committed to keeping Lake Holt a valued recreational destination for our community.

🎃 Throwback to last year’s Halloween Campfire & Movie Night! Join us this Friday, October 23, at 6:00 p.m. at Gazebo Park for another fun night with a campfire, free s’mores and popcorn, and a movie under the stars. Costumes are encouraged!

The movie, IF (2024), will begin at sunset. Butner Public Safety will also be on site before the event handing out Halloween treats. We hope to see you there.

📣 The Town of Butner is seeking community members to serve on a volunteer Data Center Community Ad Hoc Advisory Committee.

The committee will help gather community questions and concerns, review information, hear from subject matter experts, and report findings to the Town. The Committee does not make zoning or regulatory decisions. Three community members will serve alongside the Mayor and a Planning Board member.

Applications are due by 5:00 p.m. on October 30, 2026, with appointments made at the November 5 Town Council meeting.
