Storm Update – Strong Winds Expected

The storm moving through Montana this week will affect most of the state, but the Butte area is not expected to see the most severe conditions.

Unlike the wind event in December, the cold front with this storm is not expected to push through Butte in the same way. However, we will have strong, gusty winds and wind gusts over 60 mph cannot be ruled out.

Travel Impacts:
With the timing of the storm, morning and evening commutes will likely be impacted. Consider making alternate travel plans if possible.

Areas with Stronger Winds:
Garrison Junction through Deer Lodge and the Anaconda area up toward Georgetown Lake may see stronger winds where they funnel through the valleys.

Driving Hazards:
Strong west winds will make north–south travel difficult, especially in areas such as Elk Park. High-profile vehicles should use extra caution.

Possible Scam Phone Call Alert

The Butte-Silver Bow Fire Department is aware of a possible scam involving phone calls soliciting donations on behalf of the “Butte Fire Alliance” from a local phone number.

To our knowledge, no entity within the BSBFD is currently collecting donations, and we would not solicit funds by phone.

We encourage the community to stay vigilant with unexpected calls, especially those requesting money, personal details, or payment information. When in doubt, hang up and verify through official channels.

Thank you for helping keep our community informed and safe. If you feel you have been targeted by a scam, please report it to local law enforcement or the appropriate authorities.

Marry Christmas from the members of the Home Atherton Fire Department.

We have recieved our final numbers for the drive!
We were able to collect 83,698 lbs of food and $100,127.49!!!
This was our biggest year to date and we want to extend a huge thank you to everyone that donated and volunteered! We would never have been able to accomplish what we did without you.
Each year we set out to try and collect as much money and food as possible, but this year was a much bigger push with everything that has happened this year, prior to the drive. Again, we want to extend our biggest thank you to each and every one of you that helped us reach our goals this year!! No words can describe how happy it makes us feel to see this happen each year. We hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year as well! We will look forward to seeing everyone again next year!

Severe Wind Event Update – Wednesday, December 17, 2025.

The Butte-Silver Bow Fire Department experienced a very busy operational period during Wednesday’s severe wind event. Throughout the day and into the evening, crews responded to 84 calls for service across the community. C Shift, Chief Osborne, Assistant Chief Lee along with 19 off duty Battalion Chiefs, Captains, and Firefighters staffed the Incident Command Post and numerous apparatus to respond to the multiple incidents.

These incidents included numerous hazards that required crews to operate carefully and coordinate closely with partner agencies to ensure public safety. We would like to thank Butte-Silver Bow Emergency Management, Butte-Silver Bow Law Enforcement Department, A-1 Ambulance, Butte-Silver Bow, NorthWestern Energy, all of our local Volunteer Fire Departments, the many others that helped in this incident and last but certainly not least the Butte-Silver Bow 911 Communications Center!

We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation during this event and would like to remind everyone to remain cautious around downed power lines, damaged structures, and debris following severe weather. As always, the Butte-Silver Bow Fire Department remains ready to respond and serve our community.
