Butte-Silver Bow Law Enforcement Department The Butte-Silver Bow Law Enforcement Department is responsible for providing all law enforcement services to the citizens of Butte-Silver Bow.

We are a consolidated city/county agency. Our chief administrator is an elected Sheriff. Our current Sheriff is Ed Lester. In addition to law enforcement services, the BSBLED is also responsible for operating the Silver Bow Detention Center and the 911 Dispatch Center. The BSBLED consists of all Police Officers, Detention Officers, and Dispatchers.

Butte Police Media Release

April 4, 2026 at 1505 hours

The Butte Police Department is investigating numerous reports of broken windows across the city.

Preliminary findings indicate the damage was caused by projectiles launched from slingshots.

Following an extensive investigation throughout the day, multiple suspects have been taken into custody and evidence has been recovered.

Anyone whose home, vehicle, or business has been damaged is encouraged to contact the Butte Police Department at 406-497-1120 to file a report.

The investigation is ongoing, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.

SCAM ALERT

Residents in the Butte–Silver Bow area have reported receiving text messages claiming to be from the “MVD” stating that the recipient has unpaid fines. The message warns that failure to click a link and pay the fine will result in suspension of their driver’s license.

These messages are fraudulent.

Government agencies do not request payment or threaten license suspension through unsolicited text messages with links. Do not click on any links or provide personal or financial information.

Always verify the source before responding to any unexpected message. If you receive a similar text, it is best to delete and report it as spam.

MISSING PERSON

The Butte-Silver Bow Law Enforcement Department is asking for help from the public to locate a missing person.

The missing person is Sara Salusso (age 47) Sara is 5’6” tall and weighs 250 lbs. She has brown hair and blue eyes. A photo of Sara is included.

Sara walked away from the Hayes-Morris House on Main Street in Butte on February 14th. She has been in contact with a relative via phone as recently as Noon on February 17th. She is believed to be in the uptown Butte area. She does not have a vehicle and is likely on foot. Sara has some mental health issues.

We would like to locate Sara in order to check on her welfare.

If anyone sees Sara, they are asked to call the Butte-Silver Bow Law Enforcement Department at 406-497-1120.

The case number is 06-02556.
