PUBLIC SAFETY ALERT: DANGEROUS ADULTERATED SUPPLEMENT IN CIRCULATION The Byesville Police Department is issuing an urgent warning to local residents regarding a hazardous over-the-counter product sold locally under the brand name "Buzzers - Baja Rush." Officers and EMS recently responded to life-threatening medical emergency in the village where an individual suffered severe respiratory failure after consuming this product. First responders successfully revived the individual using Narcan (naloxone).
Key Information for the Public
● Product Description: Packaged in metallic green and yellow foil sachets containing
green tablets, marketed as "BUZZERS - Baja Rush" or "Proprietary Botanical Extract."
● Misleading Packaging: While labels claim the product contains benign herbs like "Cat's
Claw," third-party laboratory testing confirmed zero standard botanical compounds.
Instead, tests revealed unidentified synthetic chemicals.
● Opioid-Like Risk: Because the life-threatening symptoms were successfully reversed
with Narcan, this product contains potent, undisclosed synthetic compounds that trigger
respiratory depression—meaning it can cause a fatal overdose.
● Over-the-Counter Availability: Products like this are typically sold at smoke shops, gas
stations, or convenience stores. Packaging claims like "all-natural" or "botanical" are
unregulated and can be extremely dangerous.
What You Should Do
● Do Not Consume: If you or someone you know has purchased "Buzzers" or similar
grey-market "herbal" tablets, do not take them.
● Recognize the Signs of an Overdose: Symptoms include slow or stopped breathing,
unresponsiveness, pinpoint pupils, and blue or pale lips and fingernails.
● Call 911 and Administer Narcan: If you suspect an overdose, call 911 immediately and
administer Narcan if available. Ohio's Good Samaritan Law provides immunity from arrest
for minor drug possession for individuals seeking emergency medical assistance during
an overdose.
