Next Saturday, September 5th, come hang out with 3 awesome instructors who'll teach you the secret to not looking like a total newbie with a fishing rod 🤦‍♂️. You'll master fishing pole anatomy (it's a thing, we swear!), casting techniques, and the super tricky art of threading a hook. 🎉

This 2-hour program starts at 10 a.m. and will cover all the basics, so don't worry if you've never held a rod before. 🎣

Oh, and if you have your own gear, bring it! We only have a few loaner rods, and we don't want you to be stuck with a broken one. 😂

September is just around the corner with some amazing programs coming up at Bethany Reservoir SRA. 🎉

Want to join Ready, Set, Fish on September 5th? Register through the link in our profile! Three special guest instructors volunteered to run the program for you. Please note, the number of loaner gear is extremely limited. If you have your own gear, please bring it. This program is for beginners to learn the anatomy of a fishing pole and casting techniques. 🎣

On Saturday, August 22nd, Alameda County Sheriff's Department sunk a gutted car at Bethany Reservoir SRA to practice diving and recovery.

This kind of practice saves lives! These are not skills they can learn in a classroom only, and we are so grateful for all their hard work.

We hope you'll never need their service, but if you do, they'll be ready.

During this training, everyone involved that stood by the water wore a lifejacket. Lifejackets also prevent needing the Sheriff's Department skills. You can borrow a lifejacket at Bethany Reservoir SRA if you do not own one.

Before sinking the car, they completely gutted it to be just a frame to ensure they did not pollute the water.

Just in time for the 2026/27 school year! Incoming fourth graders can now download our popular FREE state parks pass that allows them and their families to enter 54 state parks at no cost.

The Free Fourth Grade Pass provides unlimited access to parks like Millerton Lake State Recreation Area 🏞️ in the Central Valley, Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park 🌲 in the North Coast and Anza-Borrego Desert State Park 🏜 in Southern California.
