While feeding wildlife may seem like an enjoyable way to connect with nature, doing so can have dangerous consequences for both animals and humans. Wildlife fed by humans often lose their natural fear of people and can become aggressive resulting human-wildlife conflicts. Please resist the temptation to feed and instead use your binoculars/camera to enjoy watching wildlife!

This Memorial Day, we remember and honor the men and women who gave their lives in service of our country.

Let us take a moment to reflect and recognize the true meaning of the day, not just a long weekend, but a time to pay tribute to those who served with honor and those who never returned.

It only takes a second to throw something away, but it can take years for that trash to disappear from our reservoir. Keeping it clean means to protecting our water, our wildlife, and the memories we make here. Do your part, pack it in and pack it out.

Gopher snakes are non-venomous but often get confused for rattlesnakes. An easy way to tell them apart is to look at their tails. Gopher snakes lack a rattle, and their tails end in a thin point. They are also slender and longer than rattlesnakes and have a narrower head. Because these two species look similar, its best to give them plenty of space!

A huge thank you to the amazing group who joined us for our Learn to Fish program at Bethany Reservoir SRA

From learning the parts of a fishing rod and practicing casting techniques to tying simple fishing knots, everyone jumped right in and made the day so much fun. Our Parks staff loved helping participants build confidence and create new fishing memories along the shoreline.

The best catch of the day? This young angler caught her very first fish ever! Moments like these are exactly what make this program so special.

Congratulations to our 2 raffle winners with their brand-new fishing poles and tackle! Don’t worry if you missed out, you’ll have another chance to win at our July 4th event!

Thank you again to everyone who came out, laughed, learned, and spent the day with us on the water. We can’t wait to see more families discover the joy of fishing close to home at Bethany Reservoir!

Could this be you at our next program? Join us on July 4th for California’s Free Fishing Day, no fishing license required for this special day! Bring the whole family out and give fishing a try with us from 10am–12pm.
