On September 5th, 2024, Firefighter Jim Karp responded to a structure fire on the north side of Orland. Alongside his crew, Jim worked tirelessly, searching for victims and battling the blaze. I shared a Thanksgiving meal with my beloved FireFighters today. So often on this special day, I hear people thanking God for the lives that they have been given. Now you might think that FireFighters are tasked with preserving property and material things from fire and that is most certainly true. However, their number one concern, is the preservation of life, even at the risk of losing their own. They are vigilant in this concern, even if it means celebrating holidays away from their families. They will heap up a plate of delicious food, only to leave it untouched, as they literally run out the door to help those who call upon them. Am I biased? Absolutely! But I truly give thanks for them and for others, who embrace the call to serve their neighbor. People, you don’t have to be a FireFighter to serve others. There are lots of ways to make a difference in this world and I know you can do this! You are awesome, you are capable, you are needed. Seize the day people and believe that God loves you very, very much and so do I!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Please take this heat seriously. Drink plenty of water, take breaks to cool off, check on your friends and neighbors. Remember children and elderly are more susceptible to heat illness. Please stay safe out there.
