Did you know Guinea fowl originally hail from Africa? Because they evolved in hot climates, they naturally lay eggs just about anywhere, often relying on the intense summer heat to hatch them rather than brooding like a typical bird. Normally, they aren’t known for being the most attentive parents.
But something unique is happening. This year, our guinea hens are actively brooding and protecting their young—just like chickens!
The secret? Some of these exact hens were found as eggs and raised by our ranch chickens. Having learned from the best, they’ve traded their wild instincts for sweet maternal chicken behavior, and now they are passing that dedicated care down to their own babies.

When members of the Great Outdoors - Palm Springs (GOPS) visited Lost Creek Canyon Ranch, They thought they’d seen it all…Every trail. Every canyon. Every hidden corner of the desert. Then they came here the reaction was the same across the board… surprise, then a whole lot of smiles. Turns out there are still places that don’t show up on the usual maps.
