Today, we would like to recognize and honor the retirement of K9 Yumi for her dedicated service to our community.

K9 Yumi began her career alongside her handler, Assistant Chief S. Fletcher, in July of 2017, officially becoming a certified K9 in October of 2017.

Throughout her career, Yumi faithfully served with the Comanche County Sheriff’s Office before continuing her service here with the Cache Police Department alongside her handler.

K9 Yumi has been an incredible asset to law enforcement. She has been responsible for the detection of numerous narcotics, assisted multiple agencies across the area, and consistently demonstrated an unmatched work ethic, loyalty, and drive. Her contributions have made a lasting impact not only within our department, but throughout the communities she served.

Today, we thank K9 Yumi for her tremendous service, dedication, and the role she played in keeping our community safe.

As she enters retirement, Yumi will now enjoy a well-deserved life at home with Assistant Chief Fletcher and his family—filled with rest, relaxation, and all the treats she could ever want.

Comanche County Burn Ban Update - March 23, 2026

Burn Ban Extended for Comanche County
The Comanche County Board of County Commissioners has extended the countywide Burn Ban for 7 days due to continued extreme fire danger across the area.

Under the Burn Ban:
-All outdoor burning is prohibited, including burning trash, brush, grass, or other materials.
-Campfires and bonfires are not allowed.
-Fireworks are prohibited.
Welding, cutting torch, and grinding activities may continue only if strict safety precautions are followed:
-Work must be conducted over a non-combustible surface of at least 10 feet with vegetation protected by welding blankets or screens.
-Wind speeds must be below 20 mph.
-A fire watch (someone other than the welder) must be present with pressurized water or a fire extinguisher available.

Some limited activities may still be allowed under specific safety conditions, including certain construction activities, oilfield operations, and the use of charcoal, propane, or natural gas grills when used over a non-flammable surface and away from vegetation.
Violating the Burn Ban is a misdemeanor offense and may result in fines or other penalties.

BURN BAN IN EFFECT – COMANCHE COUNTY
The Comanche County Board of County Commissioners has officially declared a Burn Ban due to extreme fire danger conditions. This ban is effective immediately and will remain in place for 14 days, with the possibility of extension if conditions persist. Burn Ban 2-23-26
What’s Prohibited:
• Outdoor burning of any kind (grass, brush, trash, campfires, bonfires)�
• Fireworks (including ignition of fireworks)�
• Uncontrolled open flames�
What’s Allowed (with conditions):
• Charcoal, propane, and natural gas grills (must be used over non-flammable surfaces and at least 5 feet from vegetation)�
• Certain welding/cutting operations (with fire suppression and wind limits)�
• Approved public fireworks displays (with proper authorization)�
Violations may result in fines up to $500 and/or jail time.
This Burn Ban does not apply to federal land.
Conditions are dry, winds are unpredictable, and it only takes one spark. Let’s protect our homes, our neighbors, and our firefighters.

Fort Sill Fire and Emergency Services has analyzed current fire weather patterns and determined that at approximately 1000 hours, today 20 January 2026, presents an optimum window of opportunity to conduct prescribed burns on the Quanah Range (See attached maps). This is burn 26-30 of the approved FY-26 Burn Plan and is needed for wildfire mitigation and fuel removal. Prescribed burn 26-30 consists of a total 345 acres and anticipated to not affect Fort Sill range activities. We are anticipating 4 hours to complete, however, smoke will continue to linger for several hours.
