This week in Pct 2 the guys repaired more base failures, removed more trees, mowed ditches. The last 3 years we’ve worked hard on trying to get the maintenance caught up on the roads, with the limited budget we’ve had to be very creative. The approach we’ve taken is to dig out the base failures and repair the base at that location, a lot of the roads are missing the shoulders so we’ve went in on these areas and put the shoulders back in, a lot of the roads are very uneven so to repair this we’ve came in and done what we call a level up trying to make the area safe. This process has worked well for us and has allowed us to cover more miles throughout the Pct, even though we’ve focused on the heaviest traveled roads we’ve been on less traveled as well to be fair to all tax payers. I’ve hired a contractor to come in to chip seal the roads that we’ve repaired. This isn’t building a new road, this is to seal the road and to prevent water from getting into the base. The thought behind this process is to salvage and preserve the existing roads and to help get caught up with maintenance. The goal with this years budget is to chip seal 30 miles, this week 12 miles was done.
