October is SIDS Awareness Month

This month, we honor the families affected by Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and work together to promote safe sleep practices for infants.
Every action we take—sharing resources, spreading awareness, and supporting caregivers—helps make a difference.

Remember the ABCs of Safe Sleep:
• Alone
• Back
• Crib

Let’s keep our communities informed, supported, and empowered. 💛

If you are a grandparent raising your grandchildren in Harrison County, there are supports available to assist you. OhioKAN has a navigator who can guide you through the various programs available, or you can contact our agency at 740-942-2171 - ask for our Social Services unit.

Behind every statistic is a story of quiet dedication. 💛

More than 73,000 children in Ohio are being raised in homes where their grandparents are their primary caregivers. Even more incredible? More than 39,000 of these grandparents have been stepping up and providing that love and stability for five years or more.

Grandparents stepping into the role of parents show us what unconditional love and resilience truly look like. Let’s make sure we’re supporting the families who support our youth.

We’ve all done the happy dance when the baby finally falls asleep in the infant carrier. You pull into the driveway, turn off the engine, and think: “If I move them, they’ll wake up. I’ll just take the car seat into the house and let them sleep in there.”

Please don't.

When a car seat isn't clicked into its base inside a vehicle, the angle changes. A baby’s heavy head can tilt forward, chin to chest, blocking their tiny airway silently.

As soon as you reach your destination, unbuckle the baby and move them to a firm, flat, clear sleep surface.

An interrupted nap is frustrating. An unsafe nap can be deadly.
