🚨 Incident Update – Meadows of Cadiz 🚨

Earlier today, Fire and EMS units were dispatched to the Meadows of Cadiz for a reported odor of natural gas.

Upon arrival, facility staff had already begun a prompt and well-coordinated evacuation of more than 60 residents, including those who were wheelchair and bed-bound.
Their swift actions greatly contributed to the safety of all occupants. Staff also responded from Gables Care Center in Hopedale to assist in the evacuation. We cannot emphasize enough the outstanding job the nursing home staff did to quickly evacuate all residents.

The county’s Emergency Mass Casualty Plan was activated to ensure adequate ambulance resources were available to assist with the evacuation. Following an extensive investigation and sweep of the facility in coordination with Columbia Gas, no hazardous conditions were found.

During the incident, several nearby homes and businesses also reported gas odors. These were simultaneously investigated by the fire departments, Columbia Gas, and Cadiz Utilities.

We extend our sincere appreciation to all agencies and partners who responded and assisted in this coordinated effort.

Special thanks to Harrison Hills Schools for opening the Stevenson Center Gymnasium as a temporary evacuation center and providing wheelchair-accessible transportation for residents.
