Big things are coming to Whigham this November! 🍖🔥

We enjoyed having Nick Farrell join us at our recent Rotary Club meeting to share all the exciting details about the upcoming Red Hills BBQ Fest!

This event brings together talented pitmasters, delicious BBQ, and a great cause! More than just a day of good food and fellowship, the festival is a conservation-focused fundraiser dedicated to giving back to the land and community that make it all possible. The event will be held at Rotarian Jariam Queen’s farm in November.

Last week, we enjoyed a program from Karen Thompson, Library Director at the Roddenbery Memorial Library. Karen gave an update on the success of this year’s Summer Reading Program along with other programs that are going on at the library including a very exciting reading initiative called Friday Night Brights. On Friday nights at the home football games children of all ages can read with a local community member and receive glow-in-the-dark swag and other giveaways. Be on the lookout for them on October 9th.

This week we had the pleasure of welcoming our District Governor, Cynthia Edwards and her husband Lonnie to our club. Also joining Governor Edwards was past DG Andre Marria and husband, Walter.

The club enjoyed hearing about her family history and what Rotary means to her. Governor Edwards also shared her initiatives for this next year. She expressed her support for our Pavement for a Purpose 5K that is coming up next month, along with other projects like the Father Daughter Dance and our Dictionary project for third graders. We appreciate Governor Edwards taking the time to visit our club and meet with our board prior to our meeting. We are looking forward to a great year and our focus will be to Create Lasting Impact.

Last week our club enjoyed a special presentation from the new Superintendent of Grady County Schools, Dr. Jordan Williams. He was the guest of Rotarian, Adam Starr. There were several topics Dr. Williams discussed but the one that stood out the most is the importance of school safety and the safety of our students, teachers and staff. We are very excited to have Dr. Williams in Grady County and look forward to the knowledge and expertise he brings to our school system.
