Another unplanned power outage hit Calabasas this morning, initially impacting approximately 10,000 customers.

The outage began around 7:16 a.m., and the cause is still under investigation.

This is not okay.

Calabasas residents have experienced far too many outages, both planned and unplanned. Reliable electricity is not a luxury, especially during the hottest months of the year. Our community deserves answers about why this keeps happening and what is being done to prevent it from happening again.

I will continue pushing SCE for accountability, greater reliability, and real solutions, but our City cannot do this without help from our county and state representatives.

In addition to the planned SCE outage tonight impacting Mulwood, I have been made aware of an UNEXPECTED SCE outage impacting 987 customers. I have been told they are trying to identify the cause of the outage, but as of now the estimated restoration time is midnight! Nowhere else is there this lack of reliable electricity!

I reached out to SCE about the unexpected power outage impacting our community this am and this is what I learned.

The outage is impacting 1,000 Calabasas residents.

Right now the estimated restoration time is 11:02 am, but that time is just an estimate until the cause is found.

As soon as I learn more, I will provide an update.

An extreme heat warning has been issued for Calabasas by the LA County Department of Public Health, but SCE thinks it's appropriate to shut off power for hundreds of residents. This is NOT SAFE and NOT OKAY!

Here is my response to SCE in regards to their lack of care about shutting power off during the hottest month in Calabasas:

This is completely unacceptable and hundreds of residents are concerned! This is now a public health emergency that could easily be avoided. I truly don’t know how the SCE team can sleep at night knowing what our residents will be experiencing on August 4th. There are always ways to achieve the goal and not endanger the well being of the community. SCE could bring in additional crews to start the job later. Disappointed is an understatement and it’s evident that NOBODY at SCE cares about their customers or they would not schedule an outage on August 4th.
