NOMINATION PETITIONS for the Calais Municipal Election on November 3, 2026 are now available in the office of the Calais City Clerk for the following positions:

City Council - 3 Year Term-Two Positions Available
School Committee - 3 Year Term-Two Positions Available
School Committee - 2 Year Term-One Position Available

These petitions must be filed by 12:00 Noon on Friday, September 4, 2026. For more information, please contact the Calais City Clerk at 454-5822.
Reminders:
• Candidates for office must be a registered voter in the City of Calais
• By City Charter, candidates for office cannot be employed with any city department including the Calais School Department.
• Individuals signing nomination petitions must be a registered Calais voter
• Individuals may sign as many petitions as there are open positions (example: If there are two council seats open, voters may sign two nomination petitions)
• If a voter signs more than the number of petitions allowed, their signature will be counted as valid only on the first petition(s) to be returned
• Candidates must collect at least 25 and no more than 50 valid signatures
• Petitions must be returned by the filing deadline of 12:00 Noon, Friday, September 4, 2026
• Ballot order will be determined by drawing lots on Friday, September 4th @ 2 PM

**PLEASE SHARE**UPDATED CONCERT INFORMATION!** This week's concert in the park has a new day and time--Join us tomorrow, Wednesday, July 29, beginning at 6:30 (instead of 6:00) for Take Two, playing everyone's favorite hits!

Frank Richard and Deb Richard LaPointe will perform together as Take Two. Frank’s musical résumé is extensive, dating back to his teenage years when he began playing in venues before he was even old enough to legally enter them. He’s been a member of numerous groups, including Tammah, Under Cover, and Caught in the Act, and later formed the family band Thicker Than Water, which released two albums and was featured at Canada’s Country Music Week and the East Coast Music Conference.

Deb has shared the stage with groups like Tammah, Thicker Than Water, and One Night Stand. A talented songwriter and backing vocalist, Deb is also a sought-after collaborator in both live and studio settings.

The Take Two concert will begin at 6:30 (instead of 6:00) on Wednesday, July 29, at Flat Iron Park. See ya downtown!

Holiday Closure Notice

The City of Calais would like to remind residents that in observance of Independence Day:

• The City Building will be closed on Friday, July 3.
• The Transfer Station will be closed on Saturday, July 4.

As our nation celebrates the 250th anniversary of American independence (1776–2026), we wish everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend. Thank you, and Happy Independence Day!

Today, we had the honor of recognizing two remarkable individuals whose dedication has helped shape the City of Calais for decades.

Congratulations to Robert "S***t" Seelye on his retirement after 44 years of service to the City of Calais, and to David Townsend on his retirement after 43 years of service.

Throughout more than four decades of service, both S***t and David wore many hats, taking on a variety of roles before concluding their careers in leadership positions within the Public Works Department. In recognition of their dedication and lasting contributions to the City of Calais, each was presented with a plaque honoring their outstanding service.

Please join us in congratulating S***t and David on their well-earned retirements and thanking them for a combined 87 years of dedication to our community.
