Traffic Alert: A domestic waterline break on Garrity Blvd, south of I-84, is currently affecting all southbound traffic on Garrity Blvd.

- On Garrity Blvd, all southbound traffic coming from Idaho Center Blvd is being diverted onto the freeway.

- Drivers exiting I-84 westbound at the Garrity interchange, can only go north. Drivers cannot turn left from the I-84 westbound offramp.

- Drivers exiting I-84 eastbound at the Garrity interchange can only turn left to go north. No southbound traffic is allowed.

- Northbound traffic is unaffected.

- Drivers are advised to consider using the Franklin Exit as an alternate route.

City crews are on-site, and we will provide updates to the public as more information becomes available.

📢📣 Celebration Park Boat Ramp Temporary Closure August 31st - November 2026 📢📣

Starting Monday, August 31st, 2026 the Celebration Park boat ramp will be closed to all access as part of a state-funded grant project to construct an armored rock barb and shoreline vegetation to protect the new boat ramp and dock improvements. Construction is expected to last until November 2026.

Boater Access: During the boat access closure at Celebration Park, we advise the public to use alternate access locations in the area including Swan Falls, Walters Ferry, Map Rock and Marsing (see map and GPS coordinates below):

General Park Visitors: During this time, some sections of the parking lot as well as the boat launch will be closed to the public at various stages of construction. The public may access alternate Day Use parking areas throughout the park. We ask the public for their patience and cooperation while construction is underway. Visitors should be prepared to move their vehicles if requested to do so by park staff. Staff will make every effort to keep trails, camping as well as the visitor center open.

“For over 3 decades, this boat ramp has functioned as a boater access for the Snake River downstream of Swam Falls Dam, including river access within the Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey Conservation Area. This boater access spot has been used by local fishing guides, jet boat groups, law enforcement, and the public for decades” said Parks Director Nicki Schwend.

“This final phase of the project will help us better meet the needs of all boat user groups. We’re excited to complete the final phase of this project and for all the continued improvements happening at Celebration Park.”

***CCSO RESPONDS TO SWATTING CALL***

This morning around 6:50 a.m., CCSO dispatch received a 911 call from a juvenile male claiming he'd stabbed his mother and was threatening to harm his brother. The caller also made threats to shoot law enforcement officers who responded.

Multiple CCSO deputies, along with Caldwell Police Department and Idaho State Police, responded to the reported address on the 16000 block of Kimball Ave. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with all residents at the address, who were found safe and uninjured. Residents reported no knowledge of anyone by the name given by the caller.

Based on the investigation, this incident has been determined to be a “swatting” call — a false report designed to trigger a heavy emergency response. Swatting isn't a prank. It diverts resources from real emergencies, puts residents and officers at serious risk, and is a criminal offense. The investigation into the origin of the call is ongoing.

“The Canyon County Sheriff's Office takes all reports of violence seriously and must respond to every call as if it is real, which is what happened this morning,” said Sheriff Kieran Donahue. “We are grateful this incident did not result in injury and remind the public that swatting is not a prank and can have serious consequences.”

📢🗓️ REMINDER - Public Hearing on Proposed Changes to Land Division Ordinance 📢🗓️

The Canyon County Development Services Department (DSD) is proposing updates to several parts of the Land Division Ordinance, aka the County’s way to administratively divide property in Canyon County’s agricultural zones. 🏛️🔨👥

Note that the number of allowable administrative land divisions will NOT change. The DSD is only proposing to remove the non-viable section of code.

Some of these proposed changes include clearer definitions for “lot,” “parcel,” and “original parcel,” as well updated definitions for “buildable,” “legal access,” “agricultural-only parcel,” and “historic lot,” plus much more.

These proposed changes come after public surveys and an open house in Spring and Summer of 2025, wherein the County gathered public input regarding the administrative land division process.

Our hope is that these proposed code updates improve clarity and protect agricultural land, as well as make the code clearer, easier to understand, and more consistent with current practices.

🚸🚌 Back to School Safety Tips! 🚸🚌

Summer’s almost over, and school’s nearly back in session.

Whether you have little ones just starting their first year or seniors ready to finish their last, we’ve got a few important safety tips to teach your kiddos! 🖍️🎒📚✏️

For First Time Students
1. Teach your first timers their phone number, address, & how to get in touch with their parents at work. Be sure to teach them how to get in touch with another trusted adult and how to dial 911.
2. Instruct your children to never talk to strangers or accept rides from someone they don’t know.

For Kids Walking to School
3. Whenever possible, walk on the sidewalk. If no sidewalk is available, walk facing traffic.
4. Stop and look left, right and left again to see if cars are coming.
5. Cross the street at the corner, obey traffic signals and stay in the crosswalk.
6. Never run out into the street or cross between parked cars.

For Kids Riding the Bus to School
1. Get to the bus stop early and stand away from the curb while waiting for the bus to arrive.
2. Board the bus only after it has come to a complete stop and the driver or attendant has instructed them to get on. Only board their bus, never an alternate one.
3. Stay in clear view of the bus driver and never walk behind the bus.

For Kids Riding Their Bike to School
1. Always wear a helmet.
2. Ride on the right in the same direction as the traffic is going.

For Parents Driving Their Kids to School
1. Always wear a seat belt.
2. Your kids see your cellphone habits. Obey the laws, and practice good judgment.
3. Younger children should use car seats or booster seats until the lap-shoulder belt fits properly (typically for children ages 8-12 and over 4’9”), and ride in the back seat until they are at least 13 years old.

For Teens Driving to School
1. Always wear a seat belt. No exceptions.
2. Don’t text and drive. All calls should be hands-free.
3. Avoid eating & drinking while driving. It’s not worth the risk!
