🚧 ROAD CLOSURE ALERT 🚧

Next week Leighton and Dorr Township areas are experiencing road construction and closures that may impact travel times and emergency response routes.

We encourage all residents and visitors to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and follow posted detour signs. Please avoid driving around barricades or entering closed roadways, as these areas may pose safety hazards to motorists, construction crews, and emergency responders.

Our firefighters, EMS personnel, and mutual aid partners are aware of the closures and have adjusted response plans to continue providing the highest level of service .

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as these improvements are completed. Your safety remains our top priority.

What a great way to wrap up the school year!

Today, our firefighters had the opportunity to spend part of the day at Paris Ridge Elementary’s Field Day, giving students a chance to check out our fire trucks, tools, and equipment up close. We also helped everyone stay cool by providing some much-needed water fun as groups finished their Field Day activities.

It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces, answer questions about the fire service, and connect with students, staff, and families in our community. Thank you to Paris Ridge Elementary for inviting us to be part of such a fun event!

We hope everyone has a safe, happy, and well-deserved summer break! πŸš’πŸ’¦πŸ˜Ž

πŸš’ Training Night: Low-Angle Rescue Operations πŸš’

This week, Leighton firefighters participated in a low-angle rescue training exercise designed to strengthen our technical rescue and patient care skills. The training included establishing anchor points, utilizing rescue ropes and knots, safely lowering and raising rescuers, and packaging and treating a simulated downed victim.

These realistic scenarios allow our firefighters to practice critical techniques in a controlled environment, helping ensure we are prepared when called upon to assist in challenging rescue situations.

A special thank you to Allegan Central Dispatch helping make the training more realistic and effective. Working together strengthens our capabilities and enhances the service we provide to our communities.

Training like this builds confidence, sharpens skills, and reinforces our commitment to providing the highest level of service when emergencies happen.πŸš’πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Congratulations to Steven Deyarmond on his retirement after 30 years of service in the Wayland Area EMS system! Steve started as a medical first responder in Salem 30 years ago, got his EMT and Specialist license, and 15 years ago got his Paramedic license. He has been working 25 plus hours a week for Wayland Area EMS on top of his full-time job for many many years. We cannot thank Steve enough for his dedication and the countless hours that he has put in. He has made an impact on many lives, giving his all and coming back after even those very hard calls that make us wonder why we do this job. Thanks also to his wife Melody Deyarmond and kids Derrick DeYarmond and Celeste Deyarmond who shared Steve with us all these years! We are very proud of Steve for the time that he has dedicated to serving his community and wish him many blessings as he enjoys retirement!
