Heading home after a day in the woods? Before you come inside, check your clothing and gear for ticks. After your tick check, toss clothes and gear in the dryer on high heat for at least 10 minutes to help kill any ticks you may have missed. Ticks can survive a wash cycle, especially without hot water. If clothes are damp or need to be washed first, dry them longer. A quick dryer cycle can help reduce your risk of tick bites and tickborne illness. https://www.health.state.mn.us/diseases/tickborne/prevention.html

Summer is calling, and that means epic road trips, weekend getaways, and quality time with family and friends. However, because the 100 days between Memorial Day and Labor Day are historically the most traveled—and the most dangerous days on our roads—law enforcement is stepping up patrols through the summer (youtube.com/watch?v=Lt-L4QwDRgU). Agencies will be heavily targeting the "Big Four" behaviors that contribute to the most crashes: speeding, distracted driving, driving while impaired, and not wearing a seat belt.

It’s easy to treat the daily commute or weekend drive as routine, but the reality is that the road can be unpredictable. According to safety experts, most crashes are the result of choices made behind the wheel. Last year alone, between May 26 and September 1, there were 111 fatalities on Minnesota roads—and the tragic truth is that these 111 fatalities were preventable:
• 37 deaths involved alcohol
• 31 deaths involved speeding
• 16 deaths involved a victim not wearing a seat belt
• 5 deaths involved a distracted driver

Making the conscious choice to drive sober, slow down, buckle up, and stay focused can mean the difference between life and death—for you, your loved ones, and everyone else on the road. Together, we can drive Minnesota toward zero deaths.

We recognize it’s challenging to put your nutrition first as a parent. Time slips away when you’re caring for young children while pregnant or breastfeeding every few hours.

Remember – your baby depends on you to give them everything they need grow when you’re pregnant. And you need to eat well to feel good and have energy while breastfeeding your baby.

WIC Is here for you too. Eligible pregnant and breastfeeding parents can participant to receive nutrition education and food packages.

We have resources on our website that may help: https://www.health.state.mn.us/people/wic/nutrition/tips.html

It's here! The 2026 Lunch Wagon scheduled is ready! We are excited to be adding a new location in this summer at the Hokah Library. If you've been receiving lunches at Hokah City park, please note that our time there is shortened this summer so we can make our way across the highway and serve more kids.

If you'd like to get involved, please attend a new volunteer training on Thursday, June 4 at 4:00 pm or reach out to the United Methodist Church. Donations are always appreciated to keep this program running!
